I've just been looking at Walter's record, which isn't that impressive. It would be strange if we go for him and have to pay compensation to Hamburg to gain his services when Wagner is a free agent and has experience of both the Championship and the PL.

With Sheffield United's win last night, we're now 15 points off the automatic promotion places in 10th place. Whoever the new manager is, he'll have to hit the ground running if we don't win tonight.

I wonder if Alan Russell has has a chance of staying on if he wins his next two games convincingly ?

Good question. I suspect we've moved on from that kind of appointment but it could be an extended further or even until the end of the season, given our remote chances of automatic promotion. His four years as attacking coach for England could act in his favour. I think we'll go for more managerial experience though.

Norwich City fans now living in fear as Steve Bruce tipped to fill managerial vacancy

Bruce is now second favourite on SkyBet as Robins denies any approach and Parker, Martin and Dyche fall away. Russell has moved onto the list though at 20/1. I very much doubt that a Newcastle fanzine (thus the bitter tone) has any further insight into the likely outcome.

Former Wales striker Iwan Roberts says "not one bit of him" thinks Russell Martin should land the Norwich City job.

Martin's name has been floated about since Dean Smith's sacking at Carrow Road, although he has drifted in the bookmakers' odds in recent days.

Roberts, who played at Norwich, believes Martin shouldn't be under consideration, citing his Swansea side as being "so predictable".

“I look at what Russell has done in the game so far as a head coach and not one bit of me thinks he should get this job,” he said. “I look at MK Dons – when he left they’d finished 13th in League One. Last year they finished third under Liam Manning. There was a massive improvement after he left.

“I look at Swansea – they finished 15th last season and they are 16th now after the defeat at Reading on Tuesday. Don’t get me wrong, there have been times when it has been a joy to watch, but there have been times I am pulling my hair out because it is so predictable.

“There isn’t enough to impress me.”

I find it a bit odd that Stuart Webber's wife is given the job as executive Director.

She's hardly going to fire her husband and it reeks of nepotism.

I don't think Zoe has the power to fire Stuart as they are at the same level in the new structure. It has to be a board decision, as it was for Smith.

Does Russell have a chance then?

I would say a convining win against Watford could get him the gig until the end of the season

Someone has bet £10 on him getting the gig. <laugh>
