I like the idea of the steel and determination of Saunders, but we also need the technical nous of the modern game. The club's statement suggests that the constant formation changes were part of the problem:

“As the club continues to work towards its on-field objectives this season, the board believe that it is the right time to make this transition. The club will now work to identify and appoint a new head coach who is able to deliver both the level of performances required to challenge at the top end of the league whilst implementing a consistent style of play.”

The Athletic also suggests that players were also questioning the different roles they were being asked to play with all of the changes going on.

It turned out that way, but many of us were in the dark about who this youth team manager from Germany was. It was a huge culture shift, but Webber painted an early vision of 'the project' and where it could take us. His relative silence now seems a little ominous but we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Following Smith’s dismissal, talk has turned towards who could replace him with the bookies quick to offer odds. Two former Sunderland managers feature in the betting. Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce are both priced at 33/1.

I'm tending to lean towards Ralph Hassenhuttl who, when asked
what he wants to see from his team, answered:

"Pressing. Hunting. Be hungry. When you have the ball, find a quick decision, quick transition to the front. It's about being emotional, being full of passion. Also, keep the tempo on a high level and don't slow down the game. That's what I think the people want to see."

What a refreshing change that might be.

A shortlist of those 5 but for different reasons some probably wouldn't be interested.

I would be happy with Parker, young with 2 promotions under his belt.

I doubt a dream team of Ferguson & Pep would stand a chance of keeping us in the Premier league so to criticise him for not achieving that is daft

I think if they want to play it safe, then Dyche would be a safe bet. Experienced in both the Championship and Premier league, knows how to keep a team up, with a budget. But I'm not sure the football would be any better.

Parker would do well in the Championship, but like Farke, couldn't make the step up.

For some reason unknown to me, i would be more excited with either Kjetil or Sebastian Hoeneß. Dunno why, but they both like to play attacking football.

Bournemouth's current owner US tycoon Foley is worth over £1.2 Billion, the previous owner Demin a Russian oil magnate was worth about £100 m which is peanuts compared to the other owners.

So no , he wouldn't have money to burn like he previously had at Fulham either .

I would say it's physically impossible to survive in the Premier league without a war chest of £100 m plus now .

I'm more than happy to bounce up and down whilst keeping our soul .

The American baseball guy doesn't seem to have made any noticeable improvements on or off the field so far .

Odds on David Wagner have shortened dramatically. Not sure I'd be terribly excited by that.

He's odds-on now. I guess it could just be the herd moving because of a rumour, but it looks like it might be based on something more concrete.

I wonder if Wagner would accept a short-term contract until the end of the season with an agreement of an extension if he took us up? For the club this would mean a quick appointment and not much financial outlay or long-term risk; for Wagner it would give him a chance of revitalising a career that has floundered. If Webber is intending to leave at the end of the season, he could then walk away whatever the outcome arguing that a new DoF should decide the next Head Coach if Wagner has failed to take us up.

Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Wagner stinks of a Webber old boy appointment , his ego is too big to hire a Gerrard or big name multimillionaire manager that's achieved things for fear of being told "who the **** are you Stu ? What have you done ? "

He's another German which brings it full circle from Farke too , but not sure he would inspire the squad into running through walls for him and no chance to bring in cheap misfit German players (thanks Brexit).
Perhaps if he plays some Wagner as pre game build up music .



Probably the cheapest option with Webber keeping his power over the **** show.

Meh personification but happy to be proved wrong , shame we got rid of all the Germans if so .
