I'll go first. Dalman wanted to buy Charlton in the summer with Lee Bowyer as manager until Duchatelet gazumped the price he wanted for the club. Bowyer wasn't happy and refused a new contract only to surprisingly later agree to a one year extension after some advice. I wonder where that advice came from. Although super-calm on the outside as is his nature, Dalman was mightily miffed by Duchatalet and it wouldn't suprise me if he goes back there and takes Bowyer from him. It wouldn't be just out of spite - Bowyer is a winner and could do a great job for City with the right backing from Tan.
It’s one thing getting in a new manager but he’ll not have his own players. The new manager will have to work with a Warnock squad. Solid hard working but not dynamic players. Maybe though a new manager could get something different out of them? Dalman said on Radio Wales this morning they’re looking for someone younger and who advocates offensive football. That seems to rule out Pulis and Hughton. As for whom though; the bookies are never that wrong? Maybe though it’ll be someone completely left field. Ps I wonder if we’d be having this debate had the 2 shots that hit the bar had gone in on Sunday
Until I got as far as 'Dalman', I thought you were going to say Bowyer was super calm. Not a bad shout though Sparkey. Charlton were the favourites for many to go down. Harris has been touted by Kavanagh. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50383009 Would still like us to consider Houghton though. Whoever it is, they need to be given a couple seasons. Squad not as bad as after Ole, Trollope and Mr Potato head, but will need some refinement after Colin. I think there is a core that could play a more progressive style, but a few will need to be moved on. Shame Cunningham is injured or we could get him back (instead of traore ).
"Dalman said on Radio Wales this morning they’re looking for someone younger and who advocates offensive football. That seems to rule out Pulis and Hughton." Almost everyone is younger than NW!
Whoever comes in has to seriously look at our players out on loan and see whether they would fit into the current system. Get rid of some dead weight in January and give it a go for the 2nd half of the season. I hope we get Chrissy Houghton, but can see us getting Neil Harris (which I don't think would be the worst thing).
I think Bowyer is a good option. If he get the team playing the way he did it would be high energy stuff. He battled for everything and was non-stop end to end stuff. His temperament was questionable, but he may have calmed down a bit. Not overly impressed with the names already mentioned, let's get away from hoofball.
I was in "corporate hospitality" for a game at Newcastle a number of years ago Lee Bowyer won the sponsors man of the match, and it was presented in the hospitality area - as part of that he was interviewed on the stage He came across really well - thoughtful, modest and witty It surprised me that day as his reputation was not good - since then I have watched out for him I think would be a really good appointment for you
Agreed - rather him than Harris. Mind you, in January a couple of years back we had the option of Madine or Grabban as a striker - guess who we got.
Presume he’d have a clause in his contract allowing him to leave? Dalman also said the new manager ideally will be in place by weekend.? By the way who’s our next game
I could fit Hughton into the match day report when we next play Tottenham...if they come down that is!
