On the pitch, it was amazing - never will forget it.

But at the same time, pretty much as soon as the first PL season started, he was trying to change the name - that did sour things for me (and others).

If he hasn't pursued that ridiculous campaign, I think most of the other stuff wouldn't have happened too (or might have happened at some point to less of an impact on their popularity - due to the name change not happening).

As a family they must regret trying to change the name and for the rest of us, what might have been.

Err we weren’t owned by the Allams in 2008. The 2008/9 season and the play off final to get promoted to start it for me was special, so so special.

Admittedly the FA Cup final, under the Allams was an absolutely unbelievable day, in my top 5 along with the play off final, wedding and birth of two daughters.

He’s a lovely bloke and he loves the club, most clubs would be happy to have someone like him on the books.
I've no doubt he is lovely and loves the club, I could say that about the man who sits behind me in E10, but what has he actually done under the last three managers that exonerates him from blame considering he was their right hand man?

3 times he has sat there quietly whilst someone makes a mess of their job one way or another. Lovely or not he is part of those failures.

My big question is.... as a coach and a former left back, just what has he brought to sort, or attempt to sort that bollocks out,..,.?

Apologies, I thought it would be eternally obvious to everyone I was talking about the first Allam PL season, especially as the entire post was framed around the name change attempt.

I don't understand this. I've no idea what he's like in his job behind the scenes and I can't imagine many, if any on here do. But the nature of his role is to buy in to what the manager wants and to do what he's asked to do.

What motivated him to come here? A Reading fan would not be enamoured given all the talk about club & fans & a player motivator. There is no loyalty in football at the professional level. Fans alone are the emotional stakeholders... players and managers view every moment as a positioning stage for betterment. So let's say he does well here for the rest of the season. Will we be like Reading fans are today when a struggling Prem. side come looking for his services? It's not a game, it's a business and the ruthless win out, always. Rant over...too much blood in my alcohol system just now...reality is a bitch...need some pints to get back to my semi-permanent altered state of mind where everyone is lovely and loyal and there are no hidden agendas and we win the FA Cup and we get promo. to the promised land and we win that the following year and then we win the Champions League and Ruben is a great guy, Black & Amber to the core...I think I need to be hooked up to a barrel of whiskey.
