Sorry lads, I made up the bit about a 5 year deal, because it sounded stupid enough for our owners to do. I have no idea how long his contract is. Some rumour on X that’s it’s 3 years, which I hope includes this season.
https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/61182/right-man.-right-time-–-column Whittingham’s take. Very positive video included. He says things (in perfect English) like ‘once we have one, we go for two then three goals’ and ‘keep it on the ground’, and ‘if we play the football we can play we will smash them. We will ****ing smash them’ (no supply teacher stuff @bobmid), lets his senior players take a lead, nodding quietly when they talk……. ……but he plays Tika Taka when possible which will test the ability of some of our players and the patience of some of our fans. Getting a tune out of Chair and Willock might be the key. I had given up on Willock but fingers crossed a coach who wants to play football might reboot him.
In true QPR spirit, I'm having a welcoming party for our new manager. I'm having a martini for Marti! Think l've already welcomed his backroom staff, hic! He must have a big family, this book l have, says top 50 gin martini's, hic! Everybody's welcome!
Given what happened in his last game in charge of Hammarby, he should fit right in here! “It is a fantastic club with a fantastic history,” Cifuentes said following his final match in charge of Hammarby on Monday night which saw his side concede two goals in second-half stoppage time to draw 2-2 with Sirius.
Yes I am excited by this appointment. Sort of appointment we always wanted. He plays the sort of football we like He has ideas, and plans He will watch the opposition and play accordingly. It makes me think he might be able to use substitutions to change a match...now that would be a novelty. We have players to do this. I keep bleating on...our players are too good to be 23rd . But their confidence is shot, they are being smashed each week, some of them don't believe in the way we were playing (Dykes, Chair, Willock and our right wing back Smyth spring to mind). Our disciplinary record is awful, Chair is one card off a suspension btw. It will take time to work through the angst of the last 3 months...but I think we will get there. If we stay up...Marti has done his job, and he can start again next year
I am also surfing on a wave of to date unjustified positivity, but then I think sacrilegious thoughts like ‘who the **** is going to score the goals?’ I’m afraid our current league position, and our overall record since January 2022 is down to the players as well as the coaches. 9 wins under Beale the only positive (but even then that was 9 out of 22 that he managed us for) since then. Good luck Marti!
I'd have preferred us to get Warnock in to keep us up and then an appointment like this for next season. It's a huge ask for him to avoid relegation, and then presumably we sack him when we go down. And on the cycle goes. But trying to remain positive, I sincerely hope we now give Marti 'Wilde-thing' time. And if we go down, keep him in place to rebuild and get us back up. Anyone know if he's brought his own backroom team with him?
I guess even if we go down which is still a probable rather than a possible he’s considered to be the man to re-build with whatever dregs of a squad remain in L1. Quite why the bloke took the job I’m not sure. Probably sees it as a stepping stone which is fine if he delivers success (21st place) this season and then a decent start next year. We’re still 1/2 to go down. Sheff Wed who could get a points deduction are considered less likely to go down.
Appointing someone who has never managed in the UK could be an inspired choice or a complete disaster, only time will tell. I'm for one are quite excited by it and am glad that we didn't opt for one of the usual suspects who have only available because they have just been sacked.
Must admit this appointment has reinstated a modicum of excitement having watched the dross served up at Massive and Baggies (I did turn off after an hour being totally bored by our disgraceful performance in that one), I believe this could be inspired and get us back to playing the "QPR way" so that both us and the players can start enjoying our football again..... Vamos Rangers....
There’s a little bit of me that is reminded of the appointment of Paulo Sousa (which of course ended under a mysterious cloud and his sacking for ‘divulging sensitive information’ during those crazy Flavio/Palladini years) and the excitement that ensued then. Hopefully MC will have greater success and better support. Nothing to stop us getting the DoF sorted now as we don’t have the short-term Warnock appointment. All focus on staying up now!!
I remember being completely underwhelmed by Gigi's appointment then being fully entertained by his open attacking mindset. His defence was awful and I think we conceded loads from winning positions but was always entertaining. I'm getting a similiar feeling with Cif.
