What's the deal with this Oxen lot? Are they local?

Kappa designs were nice, but the sizing across the range was iffy, and the quality of the stitching was absolutely shocking (one or two of my shirts are slowly falling apart at the seams)

Flew with them to Pakistan, cracking airline. Business class all the way for not much additional. Highly recommend them if you're ever heading that way!
One thing about the turks is they are very 'patriotic' if thats the right word

Seeing acun with the turkish flag at wembley has gone down an absolute treat over there
Alongside fenerbache turkish page mentioning us

We are properly famous in turkey now

What that means, not sure but
Cant be a bad thing

It's very late in the day to be switching kit suppliers.
I thought that. My post asking if it’s too late to bin off Oxen was tongue-in-cheek because May is way too late to be switching kit suppliers when the kits are usually announced in July at the latest when the first pre-season friendlies are played.

Adidas and PUMA have already done the 26/27 kits for the big Prem teams like Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool as they usually wear next year’s home kit in the last home game of the current season. That indicates that designs are all finalised months in advance. We may have had an agreement in principle with Oxen without signing the contract yet but apparently Les (Hull City Kits on X) has been working with Oxen to design next season’s kit. If we go with Adidas, it will be a rather boring cookie cutter template.

The kids both had replica shirts on all weekend, the amount of Turks stopping us was crazy. Even pulling over their cars to talk to us. One guy reckons he went to College with Acun in North London. He did 6 months there to learn English then told this guy 'I'm going home now to become a millionaire'.

One guy even gave them a free ice cream and had his photo with them. Definately seems to be a buzz over there.

I've always said he could be the best owner possible. I was defending him to the hilt for a long time. What I know went on was bad, and it doesnt need to be dragged up again. If its sorted and he has learned lessons then great. Tan needed to shoulder a lot of the blame anyway.

We do have an owner who knows how to get us noticed and I am not convinced we will be coming straight back down with his connections. We could spend well and become established if done properly.

Is this a dumb question?

Do teams pay the kit manufacturers
Or the kit manufacturers pay the teams?
Depeds on the level mate but Premier League is absolutely the manufacturers paying the teams. Adidas or Nike will be £2/3 mil payment I am sure, plus potentially sponsored product. City may have to hand over a fair amount of their retail income for that but any deal will be significant for the club now.

From what I was told Acun and his team are ruthless. If a big brand are in they will be using them. Money talks.

Am I remembering correctly or did you say you worked with or for Errea at some point, Jim? If so, what are the logistics like for switching kit manufacturers in late May/early June?

Assuming Oxen have already been working on designs as we’ve been linked to them for a few months now, how quickly could Adidas, Nike or one of the other big brands come up with good designs? Also, I remember the reason we picked Kappa was because they could make bespoke kits and that was a factor with Oxen too. I don’t think you could get that with Adidas as their kits use the same basic templates.

No idea about any of the development

But id love a city puma kit

Check milans kit for inspiration

Yeah I worked with errea for years. I actually took Les Motherby over there and they showed him the proposal they had done for City a couple of years back.
At this time of year errea will have most of their Pro clubs kits in their warehouse and on their way to the clubs for launch, but they work pretty different to other brands in terms of lead time. They stick to their guns no matter who it is so would not even consider trying to produce something for City in a matter of weeks.

Someone like Nike or Adidas could do it, Castore the same. They would be able to get a factory to make a bespoke kit in serious numbers within 4 or 5 weeks. You can get bespoke with Adidas but they just wont do it for small numbers.

If City have designs they may well stick with them for another manufacturer, designs are not copyrighted.

The way I see it there are probably 3 options. They stick with Oxen as they're way down the manufacturing process and it will cost too much to pull out, depsite the money potentiall being offered. You would think if it was being done properly some merchandise is already in production. Sponsors will be the key, if they were holding out for a main shirt sponsor knowing it would double or triple the income in the Premeir League then the shirts wont be in production.

Or they switch brands and potentially delay the launch of the jerseys/merch until July. This would allow them to bring in a proper brand who is offering serious loot. An extra 2/3 Million would be impossible to turn down, even if it means paying someone off a few hundred grand for wasted initial stock.

Third is that Acun sticks with Kappa as he has the licence and realises the income potential of manufacturing your own shirts in the numbers we are likely to see worldwide. Unlikely as he doesnt seem to have the right people managing this for him judging by the state of the merchandise and retail offerings since we went with Kappa.
