Not under a DoF/Head Coach system. Most will know that they might be able to suggest players but won't be leading the recruitment.
Even Pep, for me one of the greatest to ever do it, isn't in control of recruitment at City. Tuchel said while he was Chelsea boss he wanted nothing to do with recruitment and just wanted to coach.

Why some of our fans can't grasp that football has moved on from one man doing everything within a club I have no idea.

Aye but there has to be confidence in the approach. What would Tuchel think of Burstow and Hemir?

There's a definite resistance to some now pretty well established concepts.

The club aren’t helping mind with all this mass hysteria being caused by the amount of time it’s taking.

Find someone they want, interview them, negotiate and appoint them.

Devils advocate but they may have done this, and are being patient with Still, who is the one slowing things down.

on one hand I’d applaud the patience for waiting to get their man. But it’s a risky strategy if he then changes his mind.

my point being that I don’t think it’s necessarily the club who are dragging their heels.

it’s all us fans generating it as well. Nothing from the media or the club. Just fans getting each other excited or angry
I noticed earlier in the thread you mentioning about no media coverage on Still to Sunderland (god knows how many pages back now :emoticon-0102-bigsm) but I think it was a good point. Im not dismissing posters who have been told it's imminent, nor am i saying the media is the be all and end all but it is surprising if it was imminent that not one reputable media source has mentioned anything about it. The only relatively reputable sources we've seen re Still, was Romano who didnt mention SAFC and Lequipe who linked him with another club.

Must say, I am starting to feel doubtful on Still, ready for an appointment now like, getting a bit too close to pre season for me.

I have observed this place for quite some time and have become a little tired of seeing false information passed around, leading supporters down the wrong path.
so just get this right, you've watched this for donks, claiming we are all posting false information' could of posted a couple of days ago when it first got mentioned it was sorted to then only post after the links to still and lens ?

Well this has took a bit of a turn! A new member joining with pretty specific details, which if true wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Rumours that Lens are looking to appoint Still and complete silence from the club 100 days after we sacked our last head coach.

Im just going to wait and see what happens but it’s becoming very tiring and you can understand why fans are worried.

Saying that I’d be 100% wanting guarantees on the type of player we bring in after this season and the obvious shortcomings in the squad.

You can say the same about duds managers have signed for the club, giving a manager power in recruitment doesn't necessarily mean you will sign good players.

I have no confidence in Speakman, but I do not want the approach or the system to change I want a new DoF.

And despite my opinions on Speakman, I think a prospective head coach would also look at signings like Clarke, Ballard, Hume and the work that's been done within the academy and think that the approach and setup is actually good.

I’ll tell you what. If they’ve messed this up I want a change. He should have lost some power already Speakman. Why are they trusting him after last year with first team matters?
This is my main issue with all this ITK stuff. A lot of it's no where near the mark (that's not a slight on anyone posting, I'm sure they're doing so in good faith) and when it fails to materialise the easiest out is to blame the club, then because of their cult like following people will take that as gospel as they have everything leading up to it.

Take the Maric thing, there's no evidence whatsoever that we were talking to him this time around, in fact quite the opposite. Then when it doesn't happen it's because the club 'did the dirty on him' and 'reneged on an agreement to pursue Still'.

It's possibly similar with Still, no sniff of talks in the media despite everyman and his dog on Sunderland message boards seemingly knowing what's happening, then when it doesn't happen the line will be that the club ****ed it up, not that he was never that close in the first place. If he's not that close in the first place there could be any number of reasons why, not all of them necessarily mean the club are in the wrong.

I appreciate faith and trust has been damaged with the Beale appointment, I know mine has, but they've got it right with their other appointments so I don't think the pitchforks are necessarily needed just because Still ends up at Lens (who are a good club in a higher league and in Europe).
