Just watched a short video of the new bridge opening to traffic /www.sunderlandecho.com/news/new-northern-spire-bridge-in-sunderland-now-open-to-traffic-1-9324989. It looks like there's a large patch of the road surface breaking up already!!
This patch was on the side going into the city, which way were you travelling RAWI have just drove over it and didn't notice anything..

Must be my old eyes playing tricks!Didnt see anything on the clip.
Just damp patches.
To be fair Kirklees, I thought the surface looked a shambles especially for a new road but cameras can do funny things I suppose. Sure it's up to scratch in real life, they wouldn't spend all that money and then skimp on the last bit surely!Must be my old eyes playing tricks!

Too right, although the tarmac can be crap and it not fall down! Either way, hope it's well finished cos these things reflect on the area which is why they didn't just build a cheap basic one apparently. They'd be ripped apart in the press.
Especially so after the Genoa bridge disaster. I bet they've gone over that bridge again with a fine tooth comb, because theyre bound to be asked by it by someone!
Some people have definitely seen a large crack on the bridge. Some bloke rode a bicycle naked across the bridge shortly after it opened. I wouldn't want to be driving behind him.

What you thought was a crack is actually a metal drainage grid which runs across the full width of the carriageway. There are 4 of them at different points on the bridge..

I think folk are missing that the ‘large crack’ comment was referring to the fellas arse crack. It was a joke lads.

Close. They’re called expansion jointsThey're also known as expansion gaps I think? They allow for expansion and contraction in summer and winter.
