POsting this will probably get neg rep too, but its not the neg rep that annoys me, like you Chunky, its the messages that are left that grind a bit. I was posting on an N'Zogbia thread on the Newcastle board, posting reasoned comments about where I thought he'd end up. I think I said I reckoned he will go to Villa or Liverpool, most likely Villa.

I then got a nice big of negative rep with the message "Lost? Inbred ****". When I pointed out that this was out of order considering I hadnt actually done anything wrong, I got another neg rep saying "**** you you piece of ****".

Now Im usually pretty laid back and can take a bit of abuse, but theres something extremely personal and venomous about this. First of all its basically an easy way to anonymously send abuse to people, second of all, if theres one thing thats is going to put me off posting and getting involved, its knowing that I am probably going to get a torrent of abuse just for putting a fairly unbiased, reasonable comment up.

The sooner the rep system gets binned, in its entirety, the better.

Does a rep power or 1 mean you are good or bad?

As for your REP page, wouldn't worry to much about about it. Mine goes up and down more times Ashley Cole at a George Micheal pool party.

Not all the mags leave daft comments, some are canny lads.


Just hope that Shameless doesn't leave you any, then you need to worry after you've read them..
 
I think that they should scrap the whole rep idea. The fact that people will leave ****ty messages and not even have the balls to let you know who they are from is pathetic and childish. At least if someone starts to hurl abuse at you on a thread, everyone else on the forum can read the comment, which usually makes the author look far worse than the person for whom it is aimed.

For what it is worth MackemMatty, I remember that thread and I thought that your comments were perfectly reasonable. Unfortunately there are members on both sides who want to drag every Newcastle/Sunderland discussion into a slanging match. Unfortunately on many threads the keyboard warriors, and it always seems to be the same people, get their way and promising debates get reduced to petty name calling, but I suppose that is how they wish their forum to be. This is a shame as I feel that many fans from both sides read threads that they could contribute to, but don't bother because they know that they will just get drawn into a row with a moron.

On a serious note though, I find this 'rep' mullarky the biggest downside of this site. The fact that people can leave derogatory messages without leaving their username is something that needs to be stopped.

I'm not bothered about using the rep system either but it is pathetic the way people give you abuse without letting you know who it is.

it could be amsterdam roger as well (not saying it is but sounds like something he would use)

It could also be from anyone though, not a mag or sunderland supporter, thats the problem, others peruse the boards, and those in Genral Chat do, so it very well may have been one of those

I do think it shouldnt be anonymous though, if you have something crap to say about someone, have your name on it.

PS referrlals are like invites btw, you tell someone about the site, they put your username into the site when they sign up, you get a referal, problem is with it being open, members could just sign up multiple accounts and get referrals that way, but thts basically what it is.
