In amongst all of the chat of the last couple of days the one thing we all agree on is a new striker is needed. The debate is why we havent signed one now, or how soon we need one by. So, a challenge - who would you sign this window, and why. Also, why would they say yes to coming and do you think we can afford it. Obviously all down to your own perspective and judgement, but it will be interesting to see what us fans would do.

Serious Post

Firstly I don't think we will sign anybody on a permanent we've already heard of. Including the names linked.

Premier League Loans
Tom Cannon
Cameron Archer
Daniel Jebbison
Oscar Bobb (frankly more likely to go to one of the teams with City links - so Southampton or Leicester)
Noam Emeran

I'll throw a few wildcards out as potential permanent signings irrespective of our "model"

  • Jamal Lowe
  • Kieffer Moore
  • Andi Zeqiri (Swiss - at brighton - just back from loan at Basel - 24 now so unlikely to break thru KLD link?)
  • Divin Mubama (West Ham like giving us players)

KLD link, what just because they're from the same country? :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Sydney Van Hooijdonk.

Age still fits in with our setup without being too young, has a decent goalscoring record at Heerenveen and seems a realistic signing.

I think it depends on what we are trying to do from a play style perspective and a squad building perspective.

The attack was fluid with Gelhardt being the 9 and dropping deeper and allowing Clarke and Amad to be the main goal threats.

We also at times had Simms being more of a fox in the box type where the role of the players behind him was to create and he was the main goal scorer.

When Stewart was available he is a striker that creates his own chances with his pressing and is also a threat when balls are played in behind the defence.

So from a squad building point of view I feel like we need the fox in the box type as we have Hemir who is more of a bruiser and will hold the ball up and Stewart who will run the channels and create his own chances. Therefore I think Cannon on loan or Van Hooijdonk on a permanent would be good fits based on what I have seen on their highlights.

Jebbison would be my 1st choice, young striker with good experience of the league so far, cannon would be 2nd choice

I like the Ukrainian lad from what I've seen

Erik botheim would be on my list but im not sure if he would be available

Jebbison stands out from the names listed so far as he seems like a good fit for us. Athletic, hard worker, and would occupy central defenders well - also attributes that will make our crowd take to him.

As I am ignorant useless sod who are the potential runners and riders? We seem to have some young overseas players that have been suggested.. not many of us will know much about them.

There are some more experienced UK based strikers possibly, but as to names and price tag not a clue.

You have to work that out mate as I have no bloody clue either <laugh>

Just a thread to while away some time. Everybody wants strikers, some want them now, just wondering who they would target if they were Harvey etc.
