For me its not "absolute bollocks", a cold blooded pre-meditated murder should be shown no leniency what so ever. Now we will have to spend how many thousands of pounds of tax payers money looking after this person until he is freed after his "life sentence". He will probably be out in 18 years or so and yes he will be an old man by then but the kids and the husband of the women he murdered wont get her back! That is my thoughts on it and appreciate others have different thoughts so i am leaving that there.
In theory I disagree with you. History tell us that innocent people have been sent to the gallows when Capital Punishment was practiced. In reality though, in such a case as this, I can't come up with a reasonable argument against. Time was that people with mental problems were cared for in specialist places where, apart from all else, they received their prescribed medication. Then, on financial NOT medical or social grounds, these souls were farmed out for what was cheerfully mislabelled 'Care in the Community'. A good idea except that the care bit was ignored. I suspect that this incident is a price that has to be paid for that policy. PERHAPS, this thought might just concentrate the minds of our Politicians.
That's the one argument that will stop me voting for capital punishment, if we ever had the choice. It wouldn't be about justice, revenge, the horror of the crime committed, eye for an eye, or whatever. It would be the thought that just 1 person could be sent to the gallows for a crime they didn't commit. Just 1 mistake would be 1 far too many.
First of all if capital punishment was brought back there would undoubtedly be more mistakes made with innocent people being murdered by the state. secondly, you have probably hit the nail on the head regarding mental illness with this particular case..
But in this case there is no mistake. Shooting. Stabbing and kicking a woman. What more evidence is needed?
But you can't bring in a death penalty policy for just one case and mistakes will be made if it is brought back..
I suppose the defence will get them off on mental grounds again then? If that's the case then do as Bri said earlier, work em into the ground.
I would have loved to have saw them shot dead at the scene, but once in the hands of the state then it has to be life in prison
I know. I understand what you are getting at. But there has to be cases. Like this one. Lee Rigby one and more. When its clear cut. Its all there. Into court today. Judge condems him. Hang the ****er tomorrow or today even better. No ****ing about. No wasting money. Job done.
Everybody is shouting about the death penalty a bit early... IF this man has been let down by the mental health services, then hang them ****ers, not this bloke.
There's a lot of layers involved, I've got a busy weekend so I'm not jumping in. Not many would oppose capital punishment in its ideal sense but there's too many layers. Big time gangsters are paying people to murder folk for them, or blackmailing people to murder folk for them... Kill this person or we will kill your kids... I wouldn't think twice, the job would be done. Do I deserve to be executed? In theory? This guy can get burned alive for all I care, I've got no time to listen to his sob story, but it won't happen. His PS4 will be getting fired up already.
