Off Topic Moyes

Bearing in mind that Mr Moyse has claimed to be on of the Worlds best Football Managers, I find that list to be totally depressing.
And of the many depressing parts in it's make up, the fact that only TWO of those players are currently playing at a similar level, Adnan Januzaj at Real Sociedad and Javier Manquillo at N/C is the worst part of it for me.
 
Worst of them all imo, his staggering incompetence bordered on sabotage. There was a brilliant answer to his latest protestations of innocence to the media , by Tony Gillan, in "Ex Sunderland boss David Moyes, greatest gags, show he can be a better comedian than football manager 19/09/18", worth a read.

I don't understand how someone can get it so right at Everton, and then so horrendously wrong at SAFC.

I even think he did a good job at West Ham, where he had learned that signing all of his old players wasn't the way forward.

It was like he didn't even try to succeed at SAFC.

I don't blame him for the Djilabodji signing. That was facilitated before he turned up. N'Dong as a strange one too, as I don't think we needed him

Because everything about Sunderland was horrendously wrong.

I seem to remember that lots seemed to be going wrong in pre season after Allardyce left (injuries, and players heads being turned, Kaboul, Kone, then not getting M'vila etc). I got the feeling at the time that the spine of our team just got torn out. The run we had under Allardyce at the end of the previous season may have just papered over the usual cracks, they were punching above their weight. Or we could have finished mid table, we will never know. After Allardyce left the next manager in was always gonna struggle. I admit Moyes was terrible, but the tools he had at his disposal were terrible. The players we hung our hats on under Allardyce were not as trustworthy once he left. So Moyes replaced them with crap unfortunately.

Very true - he was dropped in to it at short notice pre season, but maybe he could have done better. Who knows

When pressed on M'Vila he replied that there might be better options around, N'Dong at twice the price?, nice one Dave. If you ask me he never wanted to be here in the first place, and just like Stinker Stubbs couldn't wait to leave, which was the only good thing either of them did for us.

On paper, signing M'Vila was a no brainer. There must have been a 'stay behind closed doors' reason as to why we never signed him permanently. After all, he was a controversial character before he signed for us. Maybe the club knew something that us fans didnt.

Has M'Villa gone off the rails or something like that recently? I have vague recollections of reading something...

Maybe we were nervous at taking a punt on a transfer fee for him

He's been doing alright for St Etienne back in the French league along with Khazri. There was rumours of him coming back to England with Fulham and Palace.

I wouldn't be surprised if Moyes said no to him just because he wasn't 'his' player. Comments he made while he was at West Ham and since make me think he's a very arrogant but very deluded man.

Slightly better. He'd have most likely had the same injury problems Moyes had but certain key players would have played a greater role and he wouldn't have had Moyes' beaten before he started attitude.

Ultimately though, I think where we are now with new owners and a new approach is the best thing for the club. That might not have happened if Allardyce had stayed and we'd kept clinging on like we had for so long.

I think we'd have fared much better - Sam knew how to manage the injury prone players - his techniques may be questionable long term but Kaboul, Cattermole and Kirchhoff all played more games under Sam than at any other time in their careers. Their long term fitness (later career), overall, may have suffered but their fitness when playing was unquestionable. Kirchhoff hardly played more than 2 in a row previously at any club! And I'm pretty sure that he hadn't played the amount of games he did for us anywhere. Since Sam went Cattermole's injuries have returned, Kirchhoff went to Bolton and played 4 times! Then he's disappeared off the face of the earth as his injuries have got the better of him.

FWIW though, I doubt Sam would've stayed even if the national job hadn't come knocking. He'd have told Short to stick the job imo much like he did the chairman at Palace
