It takes you 5 hours to drive to New York City
American distances boggle the mind. I have a good friend out in Baltimore who regards a 4 hour road trip the same way I would popping round the corner to Tesco Express.

Would just like to point out i don't actually live in Liverpool, New York
But yeah, the driving here is insane. Actually people barely bat an eyelid at driving 8hrs. Having said that, your typical 8hr drive here is one hell of a lot less stressful than even a 2hr drive in the UK. Bigger cars (in general) means its a bit more comfortable, the roads are bigger, with less traffic. I've done three 8+hr road trips since i've been here and they're actually not that bad.
Before i left i considered the 1hr20 trip around the M25 to see family as a major, major ball ache.

I've noticed it mainly from MMA documentaries I watch, almost all fighters speak of roughly doing 2 hour each way journeys to the gym and back as if it's nothing. When you factor in that they train on average between 6-8 hours a day spread out through three sessions with an hour or two break after each session, it must be an incredible strain on their bodies as they're out for about 12-15 hours a day in total... And they do this 5-6 days week, with intensity upped during week training camps!
It takes me about 45 minutes to get into work and that for me is far too long

Went to South Carolina with a friend's family in 2012. Think it took 6 hours from Washington (might've been more) but it was plain sailing the whole way which was great.
The thing that made me laugh was that you'd see billboards for a massive supermarket out in the middle of nowhere and they'd say "only 200 miles!". I can't imagine travelling that far just to do the weekly shop. So many houses on the way down there just in the middle of nowhere too.

On the other hand though when i lived in London it took me an hour door-to-door for my commute via public transport (it was that or cycle). When i moved out of London and commuted in by train it took 1h45. Now it takes me 15-20mins down the interstate. People in this part of the country consider a 30min commute a long one
