**** that I've never paid for them in 20 years. Been caught out once and got fined about £50 or £60.

Hated them, started with a bog standard 25 year repayment mortgage but always paid more than stated. Finished it in 9 years, all the others I bought cash.

that's how i started, but it was a choice of repayment, or endowment thing... I never knew which was better.
Now they have 35 plus year deals. It can't be easy these days.
