Flag article please log in to view this image Football News 24/7 Mauricio Pochettino has made his first big move with regards to luring one of his old Southampton stars to White Hart Lane it would seem, as French newspaper Le 10 Sport claims Tottenham are in well advanced negotiations with Morgan Schneiderlin. The publication claims the have knowledge that the France international is deep in discussion with Spurs over a switch to north London, despite the fact that Arsenal have been repeatedly linked with him over the course of the past few weeks. Though as yet no agreement has been finalised it’s thought that contract talks are well underway, and Pochettino is confident that the outcome will be positive
He isn't that quick when compared to others who play DM, and there will be a lot of teams trying to play on the counter, but I'm not against it if it can work. When we have possession we have sometimes played with 3 back where he drops between the CBs and the FBs both commit forward. I think there is a greater opportunity to try him on his own given we can buy players suited to whatever system we want. I think this year the double pivot was necessary because despite all our possession, our retention in the opposition half could have been better.
To me this is a none story from our glorious press Why would Morgan want to go to Spurs? No CL football and unlikely to be in the top four by the end on next season. Not top payers due to their super tight CEO. Levi would no more pay the £25m we would ask for him than fly over the moon so without agreeing terms between the clubs any negotiation would be futile other than to leave us with another disaffected player looking to escape the Ron Revolution
A guy on saintsweb saying he has a contact at Spurs who says he will sign for Arsenal, and that we refused to do business with Tottenham! Make of that what you will, but IF it's true it's some consolation at least.
I know football management isn't as sensitive as fans, but can believe that they would be determined not to let MP poach anyone (at least this season).
Apart from the lovely Mrs Godders, there will be few sadder than me to see him go. Rickie was easy to like and admire, and I did/do greatly. But Morgan has always been a bit special. Like others I am shocked he is going to Spurs. Arsenal would have made sense, but the article in L'Equipe a while back hinted at Morgan's admiration for Mauricio's tactical knowledge. But, I have to be consistent. I've always thought that he is a very focussed, bright guy and he'll have given a lot of thought to his move. I'll be sad to see him go, but wish him well if that is what he chooses to do. (This is my adult side; my child side is renting my shirt and screaming "Don't go Morgan" which has caused my wife to leave me in the middle of Berlin -embarrassing!).
I don't think he'd be that pissed off if he had to stay one more year, so it's not like we're looking to get rid, like Lovren. We'll probably get a good offer though and he'll go, but we may refuse to sell if we urgently need to keep him.
A chance, but I'd go no further than that. Morgan has been here some years and it is probably time for him to move, if he is going to. He must think it is very unfair that because he was the last to return from the WC, he is suddenly under very real pressure to stay. However, it isn't his fault that the others have left or that Dejan is being so disrespectful...he should be free to have discussions and make the right decision for him.
He maybe keeping his options open, which includes waiting to see who else we sign/sell. I hope he likes what he sees and thinks we can push on from last year obviously but if he does go then so be it. He has not (as far as we are aware, tried to force a move), so I could probably see it in the same way as Rickie. If he goes to Spurs then at least one of our ex players who went for CL football won't have it next season or the next. Chelsea and City are almost guaranteed it, leaving Spuds, Arsenal, UTD and Liverpool going for two places next season.
No. I can't see Morgan forcing his way out, but if we're getting close to our asking price I can't see the board really fighting to keep him, either.
