Something to consider if any of you are serious about getting a dog is - how much does it bark? -Schnauzer and miniature schnauzer [both hypoallergenic] never stop barking. Our neighbour has one that regularly barks for 3 hours non stop and it's actually yapping more than barking! Lots of small dogs have a proper bark, schnauzer isn't one of them. Conversely the Basenji [hypoallergenic] is considered barkless.

Not common at all, you could consider that a good thing though? Unless you mean hard to find one to buy! Do you need a therapy dog?

Yeah, I meant more in terms of finding one (especially if I'm being specific in terms of colour and hair type) and price. Don't need a therapy dog but if we were to get a dog (not very likely, this is all more just idle speculation on my part), then my wife would want a therapy dog that she could use at work. Any idea how much they bark?

Thing with huskies is they are living a long way from home as they haven't a long history of being house pets, their natural environment is the cold, so as a house pet they will seek out hard, cold floors to lie on. They shed hair like crazy and bay a lot rather than bark. Beautiful dogs, lovely eye colours as well, need loads of space, care and exercise.

Just been reading up - low level for barking unless you allow them to 'communicate' with you by barking. You stop this by being the pack leader and not allowing them to take charge. Personal anecdotes from owners vary with hardly barking at all to barks at strangers and on greeting. Great therapy dogs

You can always go on youtube to check out the sound of the bark of any dog you're thinking of getting. Sounds mad maybe but barking or yapping can drive you crazy and it's something a lot of people don't think of before getting an unknown [to them] breed. I would never recommend anyone to get a Schnauzer now I've heard them and listened to the incessant noise.

huskies hand on heart are a total disaster as a house pet.

We "inherited" one breifly.

total nightmare.

1. the person who swore hand on heart they'd walk it etc etc etc took it out twice.... running.. not walking never taught it a thing to walk. went running then left it there.

as a result it was unwalkable by anyone else as it was a puller and a husky is bred to do it. other kis culd not handle it.

2. it ran aorund, and aorund and aorund and aorund the back garden chasing brids and then flopping over panting. it wore a track in the grass.

3. it **** for england... literally it did.

4. the moment march game it started to shed and it didn't stop for 4 months and hair was everywhere it was like i had a field of nothing but dandilions.

so no if you have no experience of dog training and walking for an hour a day do not buy a huskie. they need. grooming, space as JB says and a serious excerise regime.

DO NOT POSE WITH A DOG.

90% of men owning dogs are posers. most are young lads with fighting dogs and all. i hate that lot.

Let me guess the name Anoushka, Baboushka, Minka, Marko or something beginning with a K - Keito ....

I sort of think it's almost cruel to have a husky as a house pet. Beautiful dogs that need to live in the environment they're bred for. On a side note I remember seeing a programme - Countryfile maybe - were someone's set up a little business where you can send you dog's hair and they will spin it into yarn that you can then knit into mittens or socks or whatever. [They do the same with rabbit fur] .

yes but they are now a breeding business cos of young lads posing with them. I would perfer a dog form this country in this country myself. husky is 30° heat is cruel IMO.

this dog pulled its own hair out with its teeth and then ran through the shrubs etc and they were covered in fur. We had it 6/8 months.

gorgeous dog. I could have bred it and sold pups as it was pure bred and last of litter and female too.

I chose to get it somehwere it'd be far better off.
