Must have been in football for 50 years!
I have a vivid recollection of Wyn Davies shoulder charging him into the net in 1969 at Roker Park. Perfectly disallowed goal.

I saw my first match in about 1967/68 and he was the keeper then. I have met him a few times and scored 5 out 5 penalties against him in a charity event around 1980..He is a fantastic down to earth bloke and deserves this award..
Brilliant award - one of the only ones who can be classed as a true Sunderland legend, born there, debut there, FA cup hero. Everything about him is memorable.
More than dozens of dreary 'Bruce Forsyths' who aren't fit to lace his boots.
I was in hospitality this season, against Burnley, and he worked his nuts off, a true hero ........ should have his own statue
Monty is a true hero,gentleman,and all-time legend at our club.Congratulations to him on his award.
My old mate used to live on the same estate, up on Humbledon Hill, just round the corner from Monty. We'd sit outside his house, sometimes on his garden wall, him thinking we're just sitting there waiting for an autograph, when all we wanted was to catch a glimpse of his missus!
What a beauty! I bet she still is, after all these years, 42 years on .... but adolescence aside, moving on.
He was, is, a living legend to me. Just 2 seconds of his life in 73, coloured my childhood.
This one guy, converted just a few seconds of time into a lifetime of memories for me and so many others.
And for that he has my everlasting gratitude.
My congratulations to you James Montgomery, my childhood hero.
Yeh mate I've met him a few times.my claim to fame is chatting to him while we were both in the shower.at Sherburn sports centre where he was the manager.
My working-class background has brought me to abhor everything that is aristocratic privilege. I would therefore prefer that the 'E' in O.B.E., M.B.E, C.B.E. etc stand for 'Excellence' rather than 'Empire'. Notwithstanding this, Jimmy Montgomery ' s B.E.M. has filled me with great pride, knowing what this great son of Sunderland has given and continues giving to us fans.
I fully agree that a statue or the naming of the Jimmy Montgomery Stand would be very much in keeping with the man whose two hands gave this 66-year-old the greatest moment of his Sunderland - supporting life (without devaluing the fabulous efforts of all his team-mates that day!)
In fact, why not a 'Wembley '73 Stand' bearing the names of all those who participated, in the hope that we don't have to wait too long to name the other stands.
In the meantime, congratulations, Jimmy Montgomery B.E.M.
