People throwing a hissy fit re Modric not honouring his fresh long term contract ought to consider the bargaining position we would have been in had that contract not been in place. Clubs would still have come in for him and in all likeliness the fee wouldn't have exceeded 30m.

After 4 seasons of dedication I don't see any problems from letting the lad fulfil his dreams. Wish him all the best and look forward to watching him turn out for Madrid

I really enjoyed the City collapse, Di Maria was allowed to wander past 3 of the limpest challenges, panicking about giving a FK away, Toure's in particular, pathetic for their second. Then Kompany thought he was going to get it in the face smudging his mascara and ducked...or bottled I prefer! :D

Would you care to explain what is at the moment an utterly ridiculous comment??

what a stupid comment, explain why he signed a long contract then,if he had no intension of staying, and we did not get more than 30 million for him <doh>

Which part don't you get Notso?

The first bit, why on earth you talking about something that 'might' have happened, shall we talk about my lottery win...had I picked the right numbers.

Second bit, again, in all likeliness??? well had that been the case, Levy wouldn't have sold. Would you sell your house for half what its worth?

This is how your comment reads, ifs, buts and maybe's, sorry mate its nonsense, Modric and his agent signed an appalling contract with no release clause IN WRITING!.He's lucky to be where he is.

I just hope he enjoys his time on the bench the pr*ck.

Hope he rots in their reserves.

Would have genuinely wished him all the best if he left professionally without acting like a spoilt brat, as he didn't, I hope he flops big time and becomes a member of "the worlds worst transfers".

Anyway, I'm starting to forget his name, a certain Mousa Dembele is quickly eradicating the memory of the spoilt Croatian rat face child.

If he hadn't signed the extended conntract then he would be worth less as he can leave on a free earlier.

Clubs like long-term contracts because it increases transfer fees, players like them because it gives more stability and the increased fee means they can bargain for more wages after a transfer. Loyalty has nothing to do with it on either side. Release clauses are a red herring, they are usually set at daft prices anyway so matter little. No reason for any Spurs fan to be upset with Modric for wanting to go to a club like Real Madrid.

Yes there is

Modric represents the mentality of "we're not in the CL but it's nothing to do with me so I'm off to sit on the bench of a club that always gets CL"

The fact this leads to a glass ceiling of a handful of clubs is lost on these idiots

He'll end up like Carrick, Berbatov and Keane

I agree partially, but I think he would want to go to a handful of clubs like Real, Barcelona, Bayern etc whether or not we were in the CL. And the reason we are not in the CL is more Harry's fault than the players imho

I was clearly speaking hypothetically though mate. My point stands, the length of the contract no doubt played a significant part in the negotiation process with Madrid. I can see why it would rile fans to hear a player wanting out so soon after signing a long term contract, but from a business perspective it made perfect sense for the club and player.

Players are simply playing the game as it stands, for years and years they were exploited as club owners made millions and paid the players relative peanuts. Now it's turned around, I don't blame Modric for trying to further his career that's what most people do.

We have just removed two of Fulham's best players giving Fulham fans the same reasons to gripe it's how the modern game works. We move on, we have a better team than we had when Berbatov was here, when Carrick was here and so on. I am already more impressed with Dembele's start than I was with Modric's so onwards and upwards.

I don't believe Modric's career will be furthered

He'll spend most of his time on the bench

Let's hope so.

In all seriousness, Mourinho looks like he still prefers the Xabi Alonso & Khedira partnership (which is a great one in fairness) and so it would leave Modric to fight Ozil & Kaka for the CAM place in the team, personally, I'd rate Ozil as just a tad better than both so I can see Modric's chances being limited.

Sure he'll win trophies, play in the CL and earn a great salary but will he really be happy at playing a squad role? He's top, top player and at the end of the day regardless of my feelings towards him now, he's far too good to be sitting on the bench.

You might be right look at Berbatov and Keane, but he he will back himself to succeed and that's understandable.

Berba did alright at Utd. He won 2 (???) titles and probably a cup or something. He was top premier league scorer one year and got a few in the other years too. He pretty much had a 1 in 2 goalscoring record.
Keane on the other hand....

Was still never a regular though. The season he was top scorer in the league was the same year Fergie left him out the Champions League Final at Wembley for Owen! <laugh>

As much as we all love/ loved Keano, I don't think anyone can argue that Berbatov made him look far better than what he actually was. Berbatov ended up being a real pr*ck but his talent as a striker was magical... Still is to be fair.
