Modibo Diakite

With all these new cb apparently signing for us it got me thinking.I reckon we're going to play with 3 cb next season with 5 in midfield and 2 up top more attack minded as di Canio seems to be a more attacking type of manager any thoughts

We'd need to sign 4 wing backs then surly? Where would that leave AJ? Na I don't think we'll be doing that. Feel free to mock me if I'm wrong.

When It works it can be great, but you are awfully vulnerable against a counter

Can't see that happening. No successful teams play with 3 at the back anymore. The pace of the game has increased so much over the last decade or so (particularly with wingers) that to play without full backs or wingbacks is suicidal tactics. The same reason can be given as to why we don't see sweepers anymore.

But a 352 demands wing back doesn't it or Defensive wingers which ever?

this is the 352 I know, The only one that gives any width and defencive protection. Those are wing backs.

3-5-2 and 5-3-2 are basically the same.

You need wing backs, when the oppposition are attacking your wide men drop into the full back position. When you are attacking, then your wing backs push forward and play as wingers.

You need to be one fit athlete to play as wing back. Danny Rose could be an outstanding wing back.

unless you mean something like that. but that's just suicide in todays game.

You need a narrow pitch like Highbury's old one to pull that off.

Change a forward for a defender so you go to a flat back four, and you have the perfect tactics required for the current way football is played.

I love this, Sess a bit deeper then off the front man dropping deep to pick the ball up in any space he can find and AJ playing much further up with someone new on the left obviously. Sess is defo better AM than CF

Didn't realise that picture was so big. Ha ha! Sorry.

Ha Ha, it's sound mate.

4-2-3-1 seems to be the prefered tactic in todays game, with pacey widemen, a ball winning midfielder, and one who can create as a deep lying playmaker. The front man has to basically be a complete forward while the center attacker plays more of a tresquarita (sp?). Dortmund if im not mistaken play this tactic, and it's ****in beautiful the way they do it.

It's the future. I understand why people want 2 up top 442 but it's a dead tactic. It can't cope with 4-2-3-1 and everyone is playing some kind of variation of it. I know there's more to tactics than formation but it's your base and it has to be right. One of MoN biggest mistakes was buckling to fan pressure and playing 442, the fact he cleared out our strikers shows originally he had no intention off playing 442. 3 strikers for 1 place is quite healthy so we were unlucky fletch and Connor got injured. Connor could always be recalled so his loan was not an issue for me.

Catts for me not guaranteed first team place. Certainly would not be happy with catts and n'diaye starting the first game of the season. For me we would struggle to create with those two playing especially if you are keeping AJ Sess and Fletch. Who struggled all last season.

catts and n'diaye is exactly what i want to see. I don't believe Alfie is a defensive midfielder at all, He's been playing that role for no other reason than necessity. IMO he's a box to box and will use his strength to surge forward once a proper DM is in place.

Think you'll find "New CB" is John O'Shea personallY! I wouldn't change him either as I think he's had a decent season but it's all opinions isn't it!
