Moderator proposal

Dill, I think you're pissing in the wind mate, I can't see anyone taking it.
When you think about the salary and holidays a primary school teacher gets for doing the same job with less abuse, why would anybody do it for free??
I notice that none of the mod critics are stepping forward to show what they can do better...

it's ivor or norway from me, tho the truth is that it's such a thankless task that ultimately whoever does the job invariably ends up quitting the forum, so wouldn;t like us to loose any more decent posters.
now i think more about it we need someone left of centre, someone who thinks out of the box, i vote mr G

I see my name's been mentioned a couple of times. Thanks for the thought - but no thanks. My take on site moderation is this:
The majority of people cause little or no problems on here at all (I hope I can include myself in this group). If everyone posted respectfully we wouldn't need moderators at all. Why would I want to spend hours and hours of my valuable personal time resolving petty squabbles that I haven't started? The answer is, I don't. Someone may fancy the challenge though - if so, great.
There are some posters (on all boards I'm sure, not just this one) who have strong opinions, like a bit of an argument, derail threads (maybe unintentionally), find difficulty in letting something go etc etc. Actually, THEY are the ones who should be moderators so THEY can spend all the time untangling the mess that THEY have created. The irony is, of course, that they are the people who need to be moderated most!
I wouldn't be against moderating my own threads though, like on the old 606. At least that way we all carry some of the responsibility without getting bogged down. The site isn't set up to do that but it could work.
I do feel for you, Chico. You must have had such a pleasant life in Llandrindod Wells before taking on the moderator roll.

I think it would be a good idea to pick someone who doesn't have any affinity with any of the other posters :
In a work environment, when 'one of the boys' is promoted to a senior position, there are always people who find it hard to accept. I feel that was the case on occasion with Dilligaf. If a new mod is already big buddies with a few other posters it may bring up shouts of favouritism again as soon as something gets heated.

If i was mod i would be talking to myself within a week as i would have banned the lot of you including the other mods.....No thanks not me...
I think people are overthinking this a bit too much, its not the houses of parliment its a pissy internet forum where we like to shoot the **** about the swans and have the odd laugh and a bit of banter, it is not something compared to an office environment either, 90% of posters dont know each other and where there may be common ground one week with a fellow mamber, it is not the same the next week.
Just my take on it, i feel that Ash needs a bit of help and im suprised that his and diffigafs biggest critics havent offered to step up to at least offer themselves for the job, if somebody wants to do it thats great, its not a prison sentence ,its basically to help the work load and keep the forum on track, if nobody wants to do it, i will step in until Mabon is back fit and healthy

Exactly!! This post has been up nearly 24 hours now and not one of the critics of the mods - who do this for nothing - have put themselves forward. Put up or shut up!
Norway, I take your point that it's not a prison sentence, but some of the goings on here lately make you wonder why anybody would put themselves forward.
After Dill's post earlier about Ash needing help, I did consider putting myself forward in the interim until Mabon is back or until someone wants to take it on full time, but at the end of the day I concluded that I don't need the crap that comes with trying to please everyone and getting the abuse from those you don't please. Bollocks to that.
Anyway Norway, you've got my vote. I just hope it doesn't get to you and drive you away as it has others as top posters are dwindling
