I've no idea how much these fairground rides cost nowadays but I know when they come to my area my children spend a bloody fortune on the grandkids. The wife and I give them a tenner each and I think that gets them a couple or three extra rides but nowt much else?

The Irn Bru Carnival that runs over Xmas and New Year in Glasgow works on some sort of wristband system that includes 10 rides or something and it's not overly expensive to gain entry via that system but when you count in food&drink it's an expensive day for families with kids.

All in all,the whole set up has become a bit of a rip off these days and something that many families will struggle to afford...
A tenner, a bleedin' tenner, Scottishness is slowing creeping into you.

Romeo’s used to do alright back in the day!

Yeh the bastards, coming to our town for a week, shagging all our birds that we spent all our pocket money on taking them to fair. Standing up on the outside rail of the speedway, running around on the boards of the waltzers spinning the cars round faster when all we wanted was to get off and throw up round the back.

And fighting in clubs
Lots and lots of fighting

Hull Fair's organisers say early plans for a £25m sports village next to the city's MKM Stadium are "unacceptable".

Hull City's vice chairman Tan Kesler previously said he wanted to transform the 20-year-old stadium into a "state-of-the-art" community facility, which would include community pitches and "multi-dimensional sports facilities" and, possibly, a hotel.

The SuperStadium Management Company (SMC) said talks involving all stakeholders are ongoing.

However, Michael Cowie, from the Showman's Guild of Great Britain, said its members are deeply concerned they will have less space in Walton Street for rides, and warned they could even boycott the fair if the plans are not scaled back.

Mr Cowie's full of ****, they wouldn't boycott anything, but it remains a crap idea anyway.

Great. Boycott the fair and **** off

Yeah it just doesn't feel like the businesses surrounding Walton St really get the benefits otherwise you'd see a few more. There will be a few anecdotal instances but I imagine a large proportion of money leaves the city now
I noticed last year, Parker’s (whatever it’s called nowadays) was advertising as having a late bar, til (I think) 5am.

The youth of today don’t get ****faced drunk

Well much less of them do anyway

We’re unhealthy dinosaurs

Fewer drink and those that do, dont do it as regularly as we did/do... Cost, careers, different social patterns and not the pub culture that existed before.

Yet somehow more cocaine being snorted than ever before ... So is it a percentage of golden oldies absolutely caning it, the wealthy professional classes hoovering it up or are the youth raw-dogging the drugs without the alcohol precursors...

I find that the majority of people from the hu7 area drink regular and are piss heads...
