At the local level, refs have to put up with abuse and intimidation (including from patents)

If in an FA Cup match, between Manure and Fulham, shown live on ITV watched by millions? Mitrovitch was well out of order.

I like many have ranted about refs decisions and probably will continue to do so. We have had many mostly poor decisions against us. But you cannot threaten refs, in a sense they have to be allowed to get decisions wrong and you just have to lump it

However I reckon this is a lengthy ban > 6 imho and he should probably attend an anger management course.

Mitro was wanting to talk to the ref, ref ignores Mitro and turns away (bit ignorant like ) Mitro nudges him to get his attention. red card yes long ban no.

Mitro should not approach the ref shouting his head off. The ref has made his decision, That is the rules of the game. If he is allowed to get away with that, it will become the norm just like arms around players, hands on shoulders pulling them back, shirt pulling, diving, feigning injury etc. The game is rapidly going downhill.

It's a good job he isn't playing in the Championship if he's gonna loose his head over dodgy decisions. I knew nothing about the whole thing until I was driving home last night with talkSPORT on. The way it was described I was expecting him to have throat thrusted the ref. But you can't put your hands on officials, or anyone for that matter. Taking all that into account, and the fact he played for Newcastle.... 8 year ban.

Exactly this

The sooner Football adopts Rugby's respect for officials the better... Only the captain can talk to the ref...they call him sir....his decision is final. I'm also in favour of sin bins for minor offences (taking off shirt after scoring etc). Football need to evolve

This is where I will very very very reluctantly give Trippier some credit as whenever I've seen a bit of a skunks game on TV he ushers away the other players so he can talk to the ref.

It was **** all. The ranting and raving he did after the red card was worse than the "push".

It's obviously not acceptable behaviour but the standard 3 match ban is sufficient in my opinion.

Seriously, go and watch some young kids playing football, even under 10s and you won't think Mitrovitch's behaviour was **** all.

They ape everything, and they'll ape that. He was outrageous. He pushed the ref, then approached him chest on in a threatening manner, pushing him back farther, was openly and repeatedly abusive and if it hadn't been for others, he probably would have struck him and his career would over. He is a borderline nutter, a ticking bomb that almost went off, some would say did go off.

Ten games minimum, with a further ten suspended. If it isn't stopped there soon won't be a referee left in the country.

Lino should have flagged and ref should have sent Bruno off. Shouldn't do that to the officials. Its not just about "is it aggressive enough". I was watching that Man Utd game with my son who plays U11 and ive had to explain to him why that's unacceptable. If he (or his teammates) think that they can do that on a Saturday ant grassroots level then we may as well pack in. We have had 16/17/18 year old refs (male and female) this season who have made good and bad decisions but they are learning their trade as well but we suck it up and get on with it.

Then we get ****ers like Bruno, Mitrovic and Silva doing that stuff which doesn't help anyone at any level of the game.

good point, kids watch and learn even when they do not understand (i dare bet every one that played cricket as kids would rub a tennis ball on their trousers), already seen plenty of posts about kids rolling about and waving imaginary cards at the officials...in our 'weekend' games none of these feckers would dare play, the older lads made sure you got no soft treatment although they were never over rough, you soon learned it was part of the game.

I don't watch kids football and you make a good point that they will copy stuff.

At this point though, they're going to copy it anyway or they're not. The point of it being a 3 match ban or a 10 match ban won't change a child's mind. Likewise, if a 3 match ban isn't a deterrent to a player, then a 10 match ban isn't going to be either in my opinion.

When I said **** all, I meant it in relative terms - it was a sending off and deserves a ban but it wasn't assault.

I agree wholeheartedly with the points made elsewhere in the thread that it needs to be more like rugby. Captain's only, referees being clear with why they've given a decision and any aggression towards them, abusive language or surrounding them to be punished with a booking.

I guess my point is that I prefer an overhaul to refereeing in this country rather than a single player being made an example of for something which isn't particularly more extreme (in my opinion) than the vast majority.

I agree we need an overhaul in refereeing, but in this case the refereee was correct. He deserves a 10 match ban.

fair point, but surely the point should be 'if they do not see it they cannot copy it'.

giving some decent bans should help to stamp it out...but, on your point, there needs to be someting done with the officials as nothing will ever work without consistency, there is so much bias now towards the 'big six' we all just want to see some fairness.

I quite agree Mitro was wrong but i also feel the ref did not handle the situation well, i feel he should have turned and faced Mitro told him go away or youre off.
