Not mine, maybe he should listen to me for once and drop Johansen for Amos ! If he only gives the ball away 15 times it will be an improvement. And start Austin for the first 60 mins. McCallum has to start if 80% fit, and maybe play Adomah higher up the pitch, we simply have no pace going forward.

desperate for an attacking wide man. Our forwards have had no service these last couple of games

Playing Amos instead of Johansen would have still left the midfield wide open.

I know formations aren't everything, but I would like to see a change as I suspect teams have sussed us out.
With everyone available I think I'd try 4-3-3.

Dieng
Sanderson Dickie Dunne McCallum
Hendrick Field
Willock
Albert Austin Chair

This could be tweaked to only have Field holding and Amos and Willock ahead of him.
Last nights result and the Barnsley result were (in my opinion) nothing to do with the formation and being open via that formation. It was purely down to movement and intensity, for want of a better word. Field isnt in the team to make thise forward busting runs. Against Barnsley, Hendrick was sat next to him, literally sat!. Last night, nearly every pass Johanson attempted never came off so he just sat and played it backwards. It is dull, poor and negative. Due to an obvious lack of pace just about everywhere in the team, we are not going to get on the end of lovely through balls or chips in the channels, we have to progress up the pitch by passing and more importantly, positive movement. Thats what got us to this position in the first place. One of the first things i teach kids, at all levels, is 'always support a good pass'. Its a simple message. Dont think your job is done because you made the pass.

Yep. Support your pass is pretty basic stuff.

I agree with what you're saying, but something needs to change/improve and fast.

Yeah, I wasn't demeaning what you said mate.

I agree!
Oh right. Apologies mate. We seem to offer our supportive pass, behind the one made. Its the easiest thing to do but not very progressive and even makes it more difficult as it gives opposition time.

Yep.
We've looked at our best when we move the ball quicker and forward into Willock and Chair.

Their sub/his attitude is exactly what we need. An injection of pace and raw talent. Scored a good goal, no doubt his first for the club.
I have it in for Johansen, I admit, but he needs to be dropped for a wake up call. We have no legs, that's our biggest, single, issue for when we or the oppo break.

We had too many of the players were key for us throughout 2021 and have done most to get us to 4th, way off form last night for fitness reason, too little football at Afcon perhaps in Chair's case, or some reasons I don't know. But when Wlillock, Chair, Dykes, Albert, Stefan, Wallace as long as he lasted, and Dickie are below their best or way below in some cases, we aren't going to win games. Most of those in the Squad who didnt start yesterday weren't starting because with the exceptions of Dieng and Austin, arguably Gray and Amos, they haven't yet showed they are good enough to be competing for promotion to the PL. So my thinking is Warburton and his coaches have to get these key players back on form and quick. Looks like we play 2 games a week for the rest of the month through to Blackburn so no easy task. Dickie will be out suspended for 2 games I think so hope Sanderson is well ready. Wallace probably will be out too, so Moses or McCallum when fully fit again will be needed at their best.

A formation change for a game or 2 to make us less predictable to the Opposition may be something Warburton will try.

Spot on with your analysis!

I hate to say it but this is a cracking goal with some excellent passing and movement, we really don't seem to be 'flowing' like that, our movement isn't positive and our passing seems awry far too often...

I wouldn't replace Stefan with Amos. I see Amos as a possible replacement for Chair in a more attacking midfield role, not central where Johansen has been playing usually. I thought Chair was very poor yesterday, he looked to me like he lost the ball more than anyone including before their 2nd goal. Amos can press well and is fairly quick which would be useful further forward.

I guess the best replacement for Johansen would be Dozzell with his good passing, possibly Hendrick who I haven't seen enough of yet really. But at or near his best which he was recently against Reading I think it was, I think Stefan is better than both. He and others need to get back into form.

Guys we have had a dip, come on FFS we are 4th 5 points clear of 7th. the teams around us are not doing any better apart from Fulham and Bournemouth had a decent result Saturday.
Sheff Utd have picked up 2 0-0's in last 2 games and everyone is raving how good they are. Blackburn can't score a goal.
We need some more positivity I am sure the players read these forums, we can get behind them on here as well as HQ.

Can we play Reading again?...

If he changes the formation I'd certainly hope he puts Albert in an attacking right sided position with a RB behind him like you have done there, so he can concentrate on the attacking part of his game and get some balls in for the striker (s). He was another who was poor yesterday, maybe he'll do better if he doesn't have so much defending to do. I wouldn't drop Barbet though especially with Dickie suspended for the next 2 games I understand.

But Johansen should be getting onto the box more and making more forward runs, it's precisely this that is a problem. He's offering absolutely nothing to the team, his passing has been atrocious. Scored 1 goal and 4 assists mostly from set pieces. It's not good enough for someone who's meant to be playing ahead of Field. There's no energy or drive in there, someone playing in that position needs to be chipping in alot more with goals and assists.
