Has he actually been appointed yet?

Until he has I'm not getting carried away, one way or the other.

Been here before have we not?

If all the back room staff have all gone and the new guy is to be in place before the Swansea who will be taking training for the next few days?

if he is meeting them at the training ground at 1pm tomorrow, my guess is that he wont waste any time.

Similar with Walker and Rose. They sometimes play as modern day fullbacks, other times RWB's. They have central midfielders protecting the back 3, 4 or even 5 who will drop in if they go forward. These two, like most full backs in the modern game are more adept at attacking. Obviously they will be better defensively if playing LB as they have a LM protecting them.

Righy, okay. Every player on the pitch is now encouraged to be more attacking. How's our CB doing?

According to the modern doctrine there is no difference between FB and WB. Or is it the positions around them we need to consider, too?

Would you say Walker and Rose are competent FBs?

Is it usual that FB will have 2 x CB and a Winger covering him. Or that a WB will have 3 x CB and, hopefully, a F covering him?

I think he has to mess with it as our supposed rock solid back 3 are anything but.

I'm hoping he has been studying us for weeks and is going to hit the ground running.

I don't have the answer to our defensive frailties. Individually they are all good enough, collectively they have been a shambles. I don't know if he's fit yet - but Alex Bruce was excellent at that central centre half (Probably off to Villa) but I'd definitely consider him as an option.

Agreed. Two cup games to work on the team before next league game. Points are still to be played for and the game is not over yet.

**** progressing in the cup games, its worth sacrificing them just so we maintain our EPL status, mind you the more games that Silva can get his teeth into, for a practice... the better.

Well would have to be Robertson or tymon, neither really ideal for PL at left back.

I wouldn't switch from 352 either with the personnel we have but was just stating Silva will look at the squad (if he comes) and might see a different formation in it
Silva doesn't need to do anything extraordinary with the formation. All he has to do is remind the players how to play football.

I'm hoping for revolutionary ideas like:

Strikers facing the opposition goal when they receive the ball.
Strikers receiving the ball below neck height.
Players pressing opposition defenders.
Midfielders playing in the middle of the field.
Players making three or four intelligent passes instead of one 'Hollywood'.
Players using passing instead of panic as a means of relieving opposition pressure.
And a nice warm bench for anyone who lacks either the temperament or the technical ability to play proper football.

Oh yes, he could also amaze them by demonstrating how to take a throw-in.

hmm didnt he categorically state that he wouldnt be going??
he came to Hull as there was a shortage in defenders... there is plenty at Villa.
