Most of my London neighbours are Muslims. All of them are perfectly decent, respectful and tolerant. It must be said, they abhor FGM, rape gangs, terrorist atrocities and anti-semitism, all carried out under the guise of Islam. The vast majority of Muslims are kind and decent, yet they get a bad press because we are unable to filter the good from the evil. We house, feed and tend to many who wish us nothing but harm, as seen by rape, theft and murder. Successive governments have failed miserably. They should protect us as their first mission, but they simply do not know how to.

Great post in my opinion @Ponders Revisited

It is just a pity that - because it is not easy to tell the good people from the evil - the whole ethnic group is vulnerable to fear and mistrust.
The same problem was faced by other immigrant communities in the not so distant past.
Irish folk (especially during the Troubles) and the Windrush generation of Black people.

Irish Culture and Caribbean Culture have not destroyed the British way of life.
Granted there are still areas of potential aggravation, such as the badly organised Notting Hill Carnival. But by-and-large we have found ways to co-exist and those other Cultures are gradually blending with our own, rather than taking it over.

Sadly I don't think anything can be done quickly to fix the issue of the thousands of small boat illegal migrants already in the UK.
They will have to be individually processed and either granted asylum or deported. That process will likely take 10 to 15 years at a rough estimate.
I hope that process can be carried through with a more humane touch than the way ICE operates in the US.
But it will not be possible at all unless the boats due to arrive tomorrow, or next month, or next year, are stopped.

And the only way to stop those boats without sinking them, causing massive loss of life, is to intercept them all while still at sea, and make sure those onboard never set foot on British soil.
That will mean a fleet of high speed interceptor vessels & skilled crews, plus a fleet of detention ships (or prison hulks, to use more blunt language). And then eventual re-location to other Countries.
A massive commitment of resources running into £billions.

I have no faith that Nigel Farage and his cabal of disgruntled ex-Tories have the vision or the ability to get the job done.
He talks a good fight, I'll grant him that.
But he has surrounded himself with failures and losers. Tory rejects who were less than useless when they did have power.

In a nuthell, I cannot see how the small boat crossings will ever stop.
People will keep coming, unless they realise that getting into a boat will result in the 100% certainty that they will be imprisoned at sea, or drowned.
The former option being impossibly expensive, and the latter one morally unacceptable.

PS:

Credit and huge respect to the undercover Police officer who infiltrated that terrorist cell who were planning to massacre innocent people at that rally in Manchester. He risked his life to save many others.
I assume the policeman in question is a Muslim himself. I hope he can be protected from possible reprisals.

There are no words adequate enough…..apparently it applies to 70 initially but once the legal precedent is set others can then claim (aided and abetted by all the dodgy immigration lawyers) and eventually the cost will run into millions. So more hard working older people will have to sell their homes to pay for their care, more disabled people will have to go without support, more potholes will go unrepaired, council tax will go up more etc etc etc etbloodycetera…….

"Kill all the lawyers"

William Shakespeare - Henry VI
No, just the dodgy immigration lawyers who have zero moral compass, hate the UK and don’t give a sh*t about the consequences of their actions.

Oh and Starmer.

If this doesn’t boost the Reform vote and reduce the Greens’ vote (no such thing as an illegal migrant, all welcome, don’t even need to claim asylum) then the country is truly screwed.

I am so tired of our UK Party politics.
Think I'll take a month or two off from wasting any of my rapidly fading mental energy on them.

I can see the problem and maybe it is a pragmatic decision to offer them a bribe to go away. However, it would take a family of 4 with 2 people earning the minimum wage 40 weeks to earn this much and that is without factoring NI and any income tax. So I am in agreement with those who don't like it, partly because I think anyone who is eligible would be mad to take it. So unless there is some form of stick associated with it; for example you take this or we will move you to some god forsaken place like a remote uninhabited Island and leave you there to fend for yourselves, I can't see it working.

It is just another smokescreen for doing nothing.
