I didn't expect that, I suppose VAR would have decided the outcome depending on who Norwich were playing. If they had more money then it would have been a red card for us, no ifs no buts

That incorrect red has cost us the game, which we were in control of, glad to see it overturned. Wish the result could also be overturned, but unfortunately it can't.

Not sure but I don't think retrospective action can be taken on an incident the referee missed or failed to penalise at the time. There may now be exceptions to this rule, but I doubt if simulation is one of them.

At least justice has been done as far as Sainz's suspension is concerned (as in Marquinos's case too).

And -- in the absence as yet of a Rotherham thread -- tomorrow is the cut off date for automatic 2-match suspension for accumulating 10 yellow cards. McLean currently has 9 yellows on his record. Will he be in the starting eleven tomorrow?

I suspect Sainz was targeted. He can be a lose cannon, so Borough got him off the pitch to give themselves a better chance of winning. Having stated that, the team seemed to cave in.

I have to say, despite being indignant that it shouldn't have been a red card, I very much doubted it would be overturned so I am very pleased! Doesn't get us the 3 points that we looked on course to collect back unfortunately but at least we are not being further punished for the refs error.

Will we be told the particulars of why it was overturned? I would like to know the argument NCFC presented and the reasons the EFL gave for overturning it.

Disgraceful decision from the referee and very poor form from Howson.

The curse of Boro continues, but at least we can go into the match tomorrow with the sort of positive news that it was an injustice

Probably not. The league is very reluctant to appear to publicly criticise referees. Also, if the club were to make their argument public it might lessen the chances of success in future appeals. The best evidence is in the video replays which show that Sainz got the ball and Howson then made contact with him, which could well have meant a yellow card for him and nothing for Borja. It's frustrating, but at least there is satisfaction in avoiding the 4 match ban when we're already missing Rowe and Hernandez. Howson's playacting to get another player sent off was disgraceful and he should be punished for that, but he won't be.

Thanks Rick. I thought that was probably the case.

Good job done by those at the club responsible for deciding whether to appeal.
