I'm still uneasy that you're labelling his goals as if he's a midfielder. I just counted and 11 of his 22 goals in his first season were scored when he was our striker. If you stuck Yaya Toure upfront, he'd get more chances and score more goals too.

Anyway, I'd still have him back. I can't see him getting a run of games at Napoli in his current form with the talent they have in the team, so the likelihood is that he'll be back next season. My head tells me that he's a proud man though, and I think he'd rather push for a move back to Spain than make peace with the board and apologise to the fans. He's not a stupid guy, he knows that by leaving without thanking the fans he'll have angered a lot of people. Chico thanked the fans properly, and JDG thanked the fans even though he was only ever on loan here.
 
I'm not pissed off at Michu for leaving though... I don't know him personally so I'm not bothered about not being thanked.
I'd have him back and see how his attitude is before making a permanent decision. I do agree with Bigkidderz in regards to him going back to Spain though - I think Oviedo are the team in his heart.

I know that you personally may not be, but I'd say there's a 50/50 split of fans who are upset/not upset with the way he departed. He had an opportunity to thank the fans for our support during the last two years and explain that, for the good of his career, he wanted to a new challenge. That would have created a 100% environment where hardly any fans would have been upset. He didn't take that opportunity when others did. That's a shame.

I doubt he'd go to Oviedo as they aren't on his level. Maybe a return to Vallecano though.

There was never going to be a 100% environment. There were people slagging the bloke off the moment we heard Napoli were in for him, going on about how miraculous his recovery was (weeks I might add since the last game he played) but miraculous indeed, going on about he clearly didn't want to play for us, his body language was definitely off, would it be due to how ML was treated, after all he came here for ML whether we want to admit it or not. Would it be to do with playing whilst still not 100% and not confident in himself at the time. We did hear that it was a bad injury, as some were expecting another Bodde case, maybe he is still not 100% with it, maybe that is why he hasn't taken off at Napoli.
 
That's all speculative though swanselona. What we do know is that Michu was an avid Tweeter yet never bothered to say he something like he was looking forward to a new challenge and thanking the Swans fans wo worshipped the ground he walked on. These are facts, not speculation.

As BK says, that offends some but not others. I personally thinks it shows a lack of class and is completely in accordance with Michu's questionable temperament.

There were people that slagged off Jonathan de Guzman and Chico for their entire working life at Swansea City AFC. No workrate for one, liability for the other.

They still said thanks when they left. No reason for Michu not to.

PS. I was wrong to say 100%, I should have said 'high majority'.

I never slagged JDG off, but I was highly critical of his work rate. I did go OTT at times saying I wanted him to F off, but that was in temper of the way we were throwing games other than actual feelings, I was also one of those who wanted him to come back this season.

But what I was going on about is that some are critical of how Michu went, we don't know what happened outside of the forum, and yes its speculation, but there has to be a reason why he didn't say anything.

True, I agree. I'd like to point that I wasn't saying that you were critical of any players mentioned, just that there were many that were but they still said thanks for the memories.

I still maintain that Michu should have said something. By all means, don't thank the club, but thank the fans. Many of whom still have your name on their shirts. Sometimes when you're in a high profile, public facing job with thousands of active fans and followers, you just have to bite the bullet, smile and make a statement - no matter what's going on behind the scenes.

As for Michu, we all know he used to wear his heart on his sleeve, maybe that has a bearing on whatever happened behind the scenes whether with the club or fans that we don't know about.

It's obvious and very clear that Michu left with a chip on his shoulder, his body language in the very last few games was at best disinterested, and he clearly did not want to work with Monk, disregarding the terms of his contract, his petulance was there for all to see, and all the Jacks I've spoken to at games this season are none to impressed with the manner of his departure. Monk made a very clear effort to engage Michu, but clearly to no positive effect, I think the great majority see he was a want away player, and only the odd Idiot on here would say otherwise.

His issues are of his own making, he is employed and contracted to Swansea City, since when does the clay tell the potter what to do? Only an idiot would think that the club did not bend over backwards to readjust his thinking ability, but clearly to no avail. Now go and feed on his words when he joined Napoli as well, and that also will tell you something. Now he is in a dilemma because it hasn't worked for him, matter of fact it has been a disaster of his own making, and at the end of this season he will be back here, no way will Napoli buy the flop, go on the Napoli forums and check out what the Napoli fans think of him if you think what I'm as saying is not correct, he is not rated in the slightest, he was given 70+ minutes in the first 2 games he played, and since has had nothing but 12 and 5 minutes at the end of two other games, now he has been dropped.

I raise the question of his attitude and petulance because he will be back, but do we want such a player as Michu, he looks to me to be a self destructive type, at the end of the day I know our club will welcome him back with open arms if he changed his attitude, but I do not see him doing that, and I do see us offloading him back to Spain, big shame as his first season was brilliant, and he should have built on that, and not got into the Laudrop Politics, he should have followed Amat's example, who didn't get involved in the Laudrop crap, kept his head down and focused on his career and development with us.


Of course there is the odd idiot that thinks Monk forced him out..............<laugh>
 
I agree with all of that but wouldn't use the word 'idiot' when describing those that hold a different view. Truth is you are making assumptions based on some facts, as are those in the opposite camp. I happen to agree with your assumptions as they are completely logical and flow from what we know.

Doesn't mean we're right though, remember that.

The 'Idiot' bit does not refer to 'Posters', but to one sad little 'poster', singular not plural.....................<ok>
 
Monk, was very dismissive when asked in a televised interview, "would he have Michu back"?
"No" was his instant response and he went on "people who don't want to be here are no good to me".

In my opinion, that response said much, It says that Monk was deeply hurt by Michu asking to leave, maybe Michu meant to hurt him, who knows. They were not close before were they, each blaming the other for something neither probably had anything to do with. Monks response though was instantaneous, not a nano second passed between the question and response which in my view showed it to be a 'trigger response' akin to, "do you miss your Ex?" would trigger "Fekk off, no", from someone with hurtful memories.

This suggests that at some point there was a mutual respect which has been eroded to the point of tearing an unbridgeable chasm between them.

What happened, this is what I think; its also the same reason we have a wum fuelled split on our very own forum.

In my view the split, highlighted yet again in the thread, and the squad stems directly from who is claiming the responsibility and subsequent bragging rights for responsible for the success our club achieved two years ago.

Clique 1 = Michu's group including Laudrup, his staff and his signings.
They appear to claim the success of two years ago, heralded by their arrival and completely owned by them and them alone. They pay little if any heed to the club prior to their arrival and pay little credence to us before them.

Clique 2 = The Board, Monk, senior staff and senior players.
They felt that the success of two seasons ago was purely down to their hard work and the meticulous laying of deep foundations steady enough to support a carefree platform for clique 1 to perform on. They feel that clique 1 simply stood on the shoulders of every one who'd gone before at the club and were simply the lucky few who happened to be there to reap the rewards when they came.

........ and the school yard dick measuring competition continues on our board. My side did this, your side said that. If my side said this then your side wouldn't have done that. Never about football or Silly isn't it and I don't care any more, both sides are right and both wrong, both have merit and both are complete and utter crap. Driven by members, fuelled by wums.

Back to 12/13 Michu no other manifestations. Who would he replace?

Siggy: Getting many press accolades which I personally think doesn't tell the whole story. Apart from a few bright moments he's been poor for us. Icelandic performances aside, Siggy's has been great but only in short measure, that is when he has time and space (not Einstein). Conversely, when our midfield is pressed, tackles start going time becomes short and space hard to come by Sigy becomes invisible and anonymous. Any opposition pressing our midfield easily shuts Siggy down completely. Obvious choice for me Michu for Siggy.

Gomis: seems a bit displaced to me. He appears to have the talent and physique yet is always a step off where he needs to be, the ball is always a yard too far for him. As a second striker he currently is not the danger we would like him to be, but comparing him to Michu, he was not either. On the very few occasions Michu and Bony played together Michu didn't show anything to suggest he was comfortable sharing the point with anyone. I don't see Michu as being any better than Gomis in the support strikers role.

Bony: Irreplaceable imo, not prolific so far but absolutely key to our game. His hold up, lay off, play should launch more than it actually does but the problem remains the same, currently we don't have anyone to play off him or even with him. We lack the strong running, marauding AM hell bent on getting into the box a la Michu, Siggy just doesn't play that way and Gomis is still bedding into our game.

Michu as a direct replacement for Bony is a big no, as a secondary striker, again a no, as an AM absolutely yes.

Will he come back?
I'd love it to happen but not in a million years, Monk will resign and Michu would give up football before that ever happened.
