Just had to post about him

The guy is pure quality and we have to pray he stays fit. He is head and shoulders above any of our other centre midfielders and totally took the game to them once he came on...

We need to be looking to buy someone of equal quality to play alongside him as the rest of our centre mids are upper championship to lower prem quality if we're honest.

A very bright future if he stays injury free!
 
I must admit, of what I have seen of him (and providing he's not carrying any problems with injuries) he would be the first name on the team sheet for me.

The tackle on Rooney was immense.
 
He could've cost us the game with poor passing against Villa (gave the ball away about 10 times in his short spell on the field- and most of the passes were not threading the eye of a needle) - haven't seen highlights from the weekend. If he's getting back to what he was before his injury then I'm 100% in agreement... Fingers crossed
 
nope. I'll only give him plaudits when he has played more than 15 games in 3 seasons.

Sorry but you cannot judge a player on 15 games or less in 3 seasons. He may be quality, but not first on my team sheet.

I would have all 4 CM above him as they have played far more games and have a lot more experience. IMO Gardner needs his chance, and against fulham he should.
 
I think he has the potential to be our best midfielder, but he has to realise that potential. Gardener is the same, a great talent who has not quite clicked yet.

I think Meyler and Gardener could compliment each other and be a fantastic CM pairing. Only time will tell though.
 
Agreed, Meyler looked good before having his bad injuries but now needs to prove himself again.

As for Gardner all he needs to master is how to pass to his own team mates.

Once he's done that he'll be ok.
 
I'll give Meyler till August to get himself fit and back to his best, until then it'll be a case of him sorting his fitness out before the good performances come back.

Agree with this.
He will obviously be rusty after being out for so long. He now needs game time to see if he can fuldil that potential, imo he can and will.

Hi folks i thought mayler was rusty when he came on against villa..but 10 rubbish passes to the oposition no............ more like two or three..but when he came on against manure i thought he was very very good..but manure did gave him time on the ball....i predict if he stays fit he will be the first name on the teamsheet by chrimbo..some on here will think this will be because he is giving brucy a blowie......but i think he has the makings of a very very good player as i think he drives the midfield forward...and as for gardner,he has not exactly played well when he has had his chance has he ......what would you expect bruce to do ..i would personally pick those players who have proved themselves during matchtime and would replace those who are underperforming with those players that are pulling up trees in training...so gardner pull ya socks up.....

He needs to take it easy, and get up to speed, but I agree, he´s POTENTIALLY the best midfielder at the club by a distance.

His attitude coming back from 2 serious injuries suggests good character, determination and belief as well.
 
With Vaughan and Meyler, I can see Catts have a limited future at the club.

Even in a 4-5-1 formation, I would put Meyler, Vaughan and gardner/colback in the CM ahead of Catts.

His attitude is amazing. I have him on twitter and he nothing but positive about his career and SAFC!
 
Can't comment on the Man U game, as iv'e seen zero footy from the weekend yet.

But what you have in Meyler is huge potential, and an attitude to suceed, same as Campbell.

Lets hope they both fullfill that potential at SAFC. Be a cracking team with these two on top form and injury free..
 
I do like Meyler and his attitude. I always thought he was the better of our 2 youngsters in the centre of midfield, the other being Henderson. I hope he can fully recover from his injuries and return to the top of his game. I think he needs to improve his distribution and an eye for goal but then again so could all our midfielders so yeah i would probably go along with him being our best midfielder but only if he gets himself properly fit and playing well again.
 
Sunderland's David Meyler will not allow an eight-month injury lay-off to impact upon his combative playing style.

The Irishman's substitute appearance at Manchester United was his third since recovering from his most recent serious knee problem.

The 22-year-old has played just eight times since the end of the 2009/10 season, but there was little inhibition about an Old Trafford cameo which featured one crunching tackle on Wayne Rooney.

He told the Shields Gazette: "The way I play, I like to tackle so I don't really think about it when I'm on the field playing. It's just a normal thing for me.

"You go and tackle and that's it, you don't think about it. If you do and you start to pull out, that's when you can get injured. You have to go 100 per cent hard into a challenge.

"I'm obviously delighted to get more minutes under the belt because it's been a long 17 months for me.

"I'm all good, touch-wood, and working hard just to keep strengthening the knee."
