Hard to think that back in the sixties some papers bemoaned the over the top, excitable commentating of Kenneth Wolstenholme. Yes, Kenneth Wolstenholme!.
I suppose I'm up early...don't seem to get more than 3-4 hours of sleep these days and it's randomly scattered throughout any given day. Bloody pain this getting old. Still, there seems to be football matches on the box 24/7, so there's always something to do. It sometimes involves shovelling snow You out West ?
Mention of Kenneth Wolstenholme takes me back to Earl's Court in 1951 and the Randolph Turpin/Sugar Ray Robinson world middleweight title fight where he co-commentated with Barrington Dalby. I think every man and his dog in the UK listened to that BBC commentary! Before the start of the 15th round he said that Turpin would need ' a grandstand finish' to beat the world champion. Analysis of the fight later revealed that Turpin was so far ahead on points Sugar Ray would have required a knockout to win. Consequently both he and Mr Dalby received a great amount of flack. Randy Turpin was one of my favourite boxers. He only held the title for a few months losing it by a knockout in the return fight back in the USA.
I thought the penalty was arrogant and disrespectful to the opponents. Imagine how you would feel if it had been against us.
Regina, yeah getting old sure isn't for the weak. Not had much shovelling to do this year and to modify Rod Stewart's Mandolin Wind lyrics, "Mildest winter in more than forty years, buffalo thrive in the frozen fields you know." Climate change is for real ... we have no snow, had a five mile walk today wearing slacks and a sweater (should be parka, toque and mitts). Forecast calls for daytime highs above 0c for the rest of the month. I like it but worry about drought for the farmers and forest fires up north.
Pretty much the same here (Toronto) - only one snow fall so far, and it'd gone within a couple of days or so. El Nino effect - snow predicted this week, so temps rising again...was - 30 degrees one day last week. Just love that song...
All very amusing, but really it was just lazy defending The defenders should have been beating Suarez to the ball regardless in case it was a normal penalty and the keeper saved it. laziness...nothing more
Don't know who scored it but I love the penalty that is scored with what you think is the standing foot as it looks like he's getting ready to smash it with the other foot does what iv written even make sense? I know what I mean
......... an overrated fool who every major club in the world would break the bank to buy should he become available; how little they know eh?
