Looks nice but for me half the fun of a roast is cooking it with a big glass of red wine and having the smell of the roast waft through the house . I'm also very particular about my roast potatoes and like them straight out of the oven and crispy , if you have them sitting under heat lamps or being kept warm they taste like **** after half an hour. £5 for an order of carrots and £9.50p for an extra slice of meat seems a bit excessive but the cost of a restaurant in that location justifies the menu pricing imho. Mersea is the best place to buy oysters they have an oyster festival in Colchester , you don't pay £3 each for them either.
In all fairness I’m yet to eat a roast anywhere that is better than I can make at home. My only issue is sometimes overlooking the beef. Because we always buy what’s on offer we don’t always have the same cut or same size. Last few times I’ve basically cooked them for 45 mins then rested for the same and they’ve been pretty much perfect for me. Though I like it berderline raw in the middle. I quite happily eat a blue steak.
VERY lean!! And smokey! I'll be having it served up tomorrow with a healthy (a la Piskie) dash of brown sauce
Best bacon I’ve ever eaten was procured from Gloucester services. If you ever happen to be on the m5 and go past stop and stock up on meat. The service station is essentially a farmers market. The meat is amazing. Last time I went I got two giant rib eyes, pack of Gloucester old spot sausages, old spot bacon and a shoulder of old spot pork.
Sounds great! I dont think I've ever been on the M5 though so the odds are slim. Cant beat a good farmers market though
Best bacon I've tasted was in Wales ... either Neath or Swansea market ... specialists there at both ... the tell tale sign is that you get none of that white gloop come out of it while it's cooking ...
...yummmm... I always have mine with a couple of good quality chipolatas on the side ... we are about half an hour away with ours... smell is wafting out to the garden where I'm getting the late afternoon sun whilst drinking a cold Kronenbourg
Its bloody disgraceful that companies can inject water to increase the weight of the bacon so that they can sell it based on the weight! That's just 1 good reason why local butchers have to be supported!!!
Haha, that is literally the poshest services in the World, I was amazed the first time I stopped there, truly random.
It cost a bomb last time I went. Bought some really expensive cheese. Got it home and it was absolutely disgusting.
Last time I called in they were selling beers at £3+ a pop. Just not worth it. How good is that beer supposed to be then? Just local ales. The meats looked great but again, not worth it. I get e mails from them all the time as I've registered with their Wi-Fi. You're as well going to a decent market, like Fossy said.
