    <steam> :headbang:

You've spent most of this season banging on about how Nigel is taking us down?!

Well, I'm a little surprised at this. It's too late for a new man to make any difference, they're going down anyway, and who better than McDermott to have a go at bringing them back up? He's got promotion for them before after all!

I guess Di Canio sees them as a step up even in the championship, makes sense from his point of view.

Come on, even you must admit Allardyce had the easiest job of the three. West Ham had a ready-made premier league squad, and the same cannot be said of either us or Reading.

You were expecting internal consistency with trixter comments...?

Reading really doesn't have much chance at this point, unfortunately from them...in their remaining nine, they face Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and City, and will likely need something approaching 13-14 points to stay up. They either need a major upset or two, or they need to all but run the table against the other five. No small task.

We had a squad which finished behind yours last season. We released/sold 12 players in the summer who all played in the first 11 last season many of whom were first team regulars (Bouba Diop, Carew, Green, Faubert, Faye, Baldock, Maynard to name a few)

The squad was tiny after those departures and we spent less than you in transfer fees in the summer.

Reading and Saints both had settled teams whereas we had to do 2 rebuilds in 2 seasons.

So no, I wouldn't say Sam had the easiest job of the three.

Actually agree with you on this one, Trixter. I think it might be Di Canio, to steer them through to the end of the season, with the prospect of keeping the job if he keeps them up. It's a carrot for someone who wasn't going to be managing a PL club for a wee while yet. If he fails, it's not surprising, and no harm done to his career, and possibly staying on into the Championship anyway. If he succeeds, he can write his own ticket. Win-win situation for Di Canio, in my opinion.

On the other hand, if Nigel is free from his SFC tangles, then he would certainly be a great option. I still think it'll be Paolo.

The funny thing is, when I was saying he was taking you down, you were rock bottom and had just lost about 6-0 at Arsenal. It would have been perfectly reasonable to sack him back then.

His performance in the weeks before his sacking was good. I quite like him actually. Will do a good job somewhere.

It seems a bit late to be trying to make a change to keep them up on the face of it. Could make our upcoming game against them more tricky mind.

Di Canio is the biggest foreskin of a manager i've ever seen, He hardly has the credentials to manage a Premier league team. Should have kept the ever charismatic Brian McEggBonce.

But surely they were doomed by staying as they were?

Di Canio is a total throw of the dice that might, just might spark some kind of crazy survival run.

If they're going down anyway then it's not even a gamble.

Might be worth speaking to a few Wolves fans first, before saying it's not even a gamble.

Brian did ever so well, he'd be the man I'd want in charge to recover from relegation in the Championship. Second worst sacking this season IMO.

Yeah you finished behind us last season, that doesn't mean we had a better squad! Out of that list of players only Green would be reasonably considered a premier league player. You kept a core of players from the premier league last time. You had essentially a premier league squad in the championship and we had essentially a league one squad.

You don't think that getting promotion two seasons running implies a little bit of rebuilding is in order? You're having a bubble (pun intended) if you think our squad is stronger than yours, especially last season!

Same. Teams too often take relegation as a sign that the coach needs to be removed (the bizarre exception being Steve Kean, who really did need to be removed, for everyone's sake), but sometimes a team simply lacks talent, and lacks the resources to acquire sufficient talent. He did a stellar job getting Reading to the Prem, and ends up paying with his job because they overachieved.

(And before trixter claims hypocrisy related to Adkins, I said the same thing when speculation arose that he would be sacked)

Not that I disagree particularly, but how are they doing since he went?
