I thought we played brilliantly and matched if not surpassed Man UTD today. Apart from the important facts of the goals, we beat the champions on stats. RVP was the difference, he scored 2 and created 1 .

Those 2 goals in the 1st half would kill off most teams, but we still played well. Loads of positives to take out of the game. RVP's movement was awesome, and thats why he scores so many goals and creates them, he either ends up unmarked or so many defenders commit to marking him it creates space for other players.

Apart from the result, if we play like that and the Michu/Bony partnership continues, we can look forward to another great year.

We did in the first 25 minutes, but then when Manu decided to hit us on the break, we didn't do the basics right defensively, poor position and sloppy defending gave them the platform to whip us, we made a very ordinary Manu look like European Champions, which they are not, or have you all forgotten how our friends in Europe made them look very ordinary, last season! VP my arse, just look at how we had him checked last season!.................<ok>

Chico,ash and rangel were **** today plain and simple. We have played enough game against the likes of utd and owned their attackers, including van persie so lets not put this down to them being on another level. since we have been in the prem league they have dished out one good defeat at old Trafford,fluked a win after a rangel pass went wrong,got out of jail with a draw last season and spawned a win last away game of the season where the ref was giving them everything to make sure fergie had a good send off!

so lets get perspective!

yes utd and van persie are awesome but when we are on our game we are a match for them,defensively we were very poor and we left ourselves too much to do....doesn't that sound very familiar to you ??

All games where the defence was sloppy and the game was beyond salvage.

Its been proven that if you give bony a sniff of goal he will score, but its no point if we give the champions an easy ****ing 2 goal lead by being unprofessional and sloppy!

Ive seen the exact same thing so many times now, I honestly think id prefer to see Amat have a game at the back after witnessing that first half defensive display.

Last season's end was dire, there should have been lessons there, I'm not concerned about losing, it's the manner of our loss that does it for me, and today was half baked at the back, but I'm sure we'll learn, by the way I agree with you post completely Norway!.................<ok>
 
Same old doom and gloom merchants around this season, get a ****ing grip.

RVP is genuine world class. He needs a couple of chances to score and did.No biggie. We are still learning in this league and everyone agrees the final score flattered them.

Two things are clear: 1 : we won't be relegated; 2: Man U won't be Champions.

Too gutted to post last night when I got back. I think ist the first time since we have been in the Premier League I have felt this disappointed. With a little reflection, a good nights sleep and the missus not having a headache ;) I have awoken with a new perspective and all is right with the world again.
I think we more than matched them up until the goals in fact I said to my mate (prior to the goals) you wouldnt know who the champions were. But as previously stated our defending was woeful at times. Personally I felt Vorm was just to blame just as much as the back four just felt he didnt command his box and should have come off his line. I agree with Dai though we play as a unit so to blame individuals is a little harsh. That said once they scored the second so soon heads dropped and I was grateful for halftime.
Glad Bony scored even if it was a consolation goal, he is definitley going to bag a hatful this season, never easy to score against a team like Utd. Hernandez frustrated me cut inside across the box everytime and never went wide and looked for the cross. Canas I thought was dependable and added that bite we lacked last season. Dyer worked hard for 70 minutes but gave up towards the end. Routledge not up to his usual standard. Would have liked to see Poz felt he would have brought pace at the latter stages. Overall felt the scoreline flattered Utd but at least we only have to play them once more!!
I will hold my hands up I thought we could have done a number on them today. How wrong was I C'est La Vie. Onwards and upwards I say bring on the rest and still think we will finish in the top ten.

Yes lets all celabrate the hammering of our 4-1 defeat! VP is the unstoppable goal machine, so we had better not bother when playing them next, didn't we do well though............... <laugh>
 
Yes you could say on that performance they won't win the title. However, you could argue seeing as they beat us 4-1 and weren't that good, because we didnt allow them to play, what would have happened if they did play well?
 
I'm not a fan of Utd. I admired them immensely back in the days of Busby,Best,Law and Charlton,but they became such a tawdry outfit under Ferguson.
However,their record in the last twenty years or so cannot be ignored.
They are not Premier League champions for no reason.
So,to expect Swansea City to beat them,even occasionally,is a big ask.
Their players are,by and large,better than ours,and that is the main difference at the end of the day.
Yesterday's game was a classic example of how difficult they are to play against.
For thirty minutes The Swans' controlled the game,but it was Utd. who had the better chances to score.
Swansea failed to capitalise on that early domination,and it was only a matter of time before they made us pay.
They soaked up all we had to give and then,wham,it was 1-0 to them.
Fearing a drubbing, I stopped watching and went out.
A Man City friend texted me and I told him we would end up losing 4-0,so I suppose 4-1 was a bonus.
Utd. will be there,or thereabouts, come the end of the season,and they will lose the odd game,but I doubt it will be against us.
The biggest positive to come out of yesterdays game is that we only have to play them once more,whilst everyone else has to do it twice.
 
Blimey ... the Swansea branch of the Samaritans must be one of the hardest working in the UK.

You matched United for most of the game and had them panicking after Bony pulled one back - if you'd managed to get another at that point I'd have fancied you for 3-3. As I said earlier, rather unfortunate that two really good chances fell to Rangel. You also conceded the last goal when chasing the game, which happens. Van Persie's goals, particularly the second were out of the top drawer (and ought to have given one Mr Rooney a realty check).

Your defence wasn't at its best it has to be said but going forward you were at least as good in possession (if not better) than United for most of the game. Michu is fabulous and on another day his 'goal' would not have been chalked off - which I suspect would have put a whole different complexion on the game.

Your passing and movement going forward will unlock many teams this season and I expect you to bounce back from this pretty quickly.
 
I've only read page 13 here and I'm embarrassed at the reaction of some...

There are 2 ways to play against United.

1. Sit back, play defensive and hope for a 0-0, 1-1. This was our approach last season. United had the majority of possession and chances last season, and we stole a point.
2. Step up, take them on and try to beat them at their own game. Yesterday, little Swansea City decided that now was our time to have a go at United. We had them rattled and we were awesome for 35 mins. 2 sucker punches (the first goal especially lucky with the nick off Leon that took it over Chico) and a World Class finish put the game out of reach.

Don't get me wrong, we could've played better in patches, and the defence was poor at times. But in possession, we looked bright, sharp and full of attacking intent. The only difference was finishing.

If I look at each of the goals quickly...

Goal 1: lucky deflection off Leon takes it over Chico. Ashley Williams doesn't go with his head which would have drawn a foul. Goal.
Goal 2: Perfect cross in between 2 defenders. Over Williams' head, draws Davies, both miss it. Goal.
Goal 3: World Class. But we should never show him onto that left foot.
Goal 4: World Class. But Williams opens the gap between the two CBs in which the ball and run are made.

Williams and Chico look rusty. Something to do with Williams' Arsenal interest? Something to do with Chico being injured for a lot of pre-season? They are our best 2 though... but looking at the whole team, CB was the only worrying aspect for me.

Great post fair play.

Our football is not a problem, it was great again yesterday but there is a consistant problem with conceding soft goals. Any person who disagrees with this go and check out the season review dvd !! mostly daft goals conceded .

We need to work on things defensively to improve ,the rest of the team is fine, but some of the biggest ego's play at the back so they need to get it together and start walking the walk instead of talking the talk.
This is a carry over from last season and its not fair to expect us to out score teams to win, of course the game yesterday was against Man Utd so its no problem to lose to them,but we are just as inconsistent in the games against teams around us and that is not good enough
 
To be honest Manu played with us, once they saw how inept our defence was yesterday, I don't even think they broke a sweat!...............<ok>
 
Oh please. Get some perspective. Kidderz is spot on as usual. Nobody is "celebrating a 4-1 loss" but you really need to get a stronger grip on reality and realise where we are as a Club. Man U weren't great but took their chances. Same old Man U. They've got £30M-£40M+ strikers and we haven't. They will do that to most of the opposition they face this season but I still maintain that City and Chelsea will do even better and I don't see Man U being Champions, but as always, anything is possible.

As for the Swans there are huge positives to take from yesterday and we should concentrate on that. We played some lovely stuff and I think we're going to have a very decent season indeed. That's not burying your head in the sand, it's an observation based on sound logic without hysteria. Defensive players, like any other, make mistakes. If we had two centre backs that never made mistakes they'd be valued at £30M+ each and would be playing in the top 4. Laudrup knows this and has a much more sober take on where we are and what we can achieve as a Club. I only wish some of our fans did the same.
 
I think the 'stronger grip' is really needed by our defencive back four, that's the real lesson and reality of what happened yesterday, and I'm sure the penny has dropped this morning with our back line, that they are back playing in the Premiership!
 
The best thing that can happen to our defence is that Arsenal stump up the cash for Ashley so we can buy a better defender.

What the **** has having £30-40m pounds worth of strikers got to do with it ?? we gifted them the first 2 goals and it was game over from then on. Sure the 3rd and 4th were total class finishes that we could do nothing about but its just plain foolish to not acknowledge our weak points!!

They are the same weak points that see us flapping against Norwich,Reading,Villa,WBA, and other teams I now regard as our equal !

In fact our defender tend to do better against world class strikers worth £30-40m quid so its not an ability problem its a concentration problem,which probably comes from being a bit over confident and beleiveing the things people are writing about them <ok>

Nothing wrong with being objective,dont kill it in the very first game of the season you miserable cnut !! <cheers>
