Planet Earth turning into Mars!!!

IPCC Climate Change Report says heatwaves, flooding and droughts will be more frequent and more intense as the world is set to hit the 1.5C global warming limit within the next 20 years.

UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres described the findings as a "code red for humanity" and scientists, campaigners and politicians lined up to call for a shift away from polluting fossil fuels and to end deforestation (and plenty more than that tbf)

How worried are you?
I think it's been fairly obvious we're ****ed for a long time, saving the world just isn't profitable. That said I think we'll have a fight first and use those weapons we've been making, just so we can beat nature to the punch.

The Gulf Stream is the major concern. If that destabilises then we are all ****ed. If you haven't watched The Day After Tomorrow which came out in 2005ish, it's incredible to think that nothing has been done 16 years later.

Weren't MRI and Cat scans achieved due to NASA and space exploration, along with eye laser treatment, even Sat Navs, many every day things we probably take for granted came about due to the tecnology and investment in space exploration. Even the air pumps you run in. Along with insulin pumps, microwaves I think, artificle limbs, fire ******ants. The list goes on, I think a lot of the technology for the internet was first created by NASA as well.

There probably be a load of new kit come about from that latest Mars rover.
Sat nav is based on general relativity <ok>

Used to love going quasar.

Pew pew
paintball is more fun, did it in an old mental hospital near epsom iirc, there was about 160 people, that was ****ing awesome 10x better than any other type of paintball or quasar I've done. smoke grenades going off, people hiding in the morgue where they stored the bodies, getting down the corridors was like the opening scene of Star wars, definitely made me not want to be in a war.
I caused a few tears that day

Your supposed to shoot them in the body not the crown jewels

Don't let Aber see that, he'll claim it's how they faked the moon landing.

Sure I read somewhere where they are a year away from putting those robots to tasks. Boring repetitive jobs, although I thought we already had robots that do that, just not humanoids.

Yeh I think that's the real challenge, although I saw one on QI once with Stephen Fry iirc. Basic tasks only though.

This was it...

You must log in or register to see media

That was 10 years ago.

Watch the robot take the step and then run. We take that **** for granted but it must be a ball ache to design and programme that.

I'm all for space exploration and the eventual colonization of Mars.

That said...no matter how much we **** up the earth. It will always be more hospitable than Mars. We can let global warming go rampant. We can wage nuclear war. We can pollute the oceans with plastic.

It will still be more hospitable than Mars. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't go to Mars. It is humanities purpose in the universe to fill the empty barren space with cats. Sure, we have to test out habitation on Mars with people first before we can colonize mars with cats... But if felines are going to spread across the universe they are going to need out help and it all starts with us going to Mars.

They keep sending more things up there, but there's **** all there.

You can see from that using a telescope.

You didn't read it did you.

They are looking for water, nooo, not rivers and lakes! The south pole of the moon is most of the time constantly in the shadows, so they are looking for water vapor and other resources which they will map out.

I was reading an article the other day, it more or less mapped out the future of humanity on Earth, and it is not good. So they need to do this now to help the generations of the future to find a new place to live.

We've got an advantage the dinosaurs never had, and that's the ability to seek out and explore to survive.
