As for the term "knacker' it is offensive here in Ireland, it refers to the "travelling community" commony called itinerants or gypsies in the UK. While the term itself stems from the "knackers yard" where many of them owned or worked in that business disposing of dead cattle or horses. Its the common derogatory meaning thats most often used here.
