Just need somebody with good sales and negotiation skillsIn that case, it won't be the wages holding us back from signing him or anyone else in fact.
Wether Donald has enough money to stump up signing on fees is another matter.

Signing on fees are not unless I’ve misread that article?Signing on fees are included in the cap. Along with agents fees, image rights etc.

He's equally good with both feet and can play as a 10 or out wide left or right, we have nobody like that at the club. I'm sure the club will have looked at him and maybe spoken to him, perhaps we're waiting to see what the EFL do regarding the salary cap....in my opinion he is worth a punt....And all 4 are right footed. We never have balance. We haven’t had balance since Johnston/Summerbee.
You gain so much from the balance of left and right footed players, options to switch sides and cut in or go outside, better balance for overlaps.
That’s even without the fact Maddison is a better player than those listed.
I agree though, we won’t sign him, more likely he goes to one of our rivals and we facepalm as he scores or assists against us. It’s the Sunderland way![]()
Good post Nads...Gooch plays on right though, right sided I should have said. Diamond is a kid and O’Brien I believe signed as a striker.
In the same way McGeady was slowing games down so does a wrong footed striker having to cut inside to cross.
I agree though there must be a reason he’s without a club, it’s more likely money than anything else with the wage cap fiasco, surely they need to sort that out like now. Clubs could be handicapped and players out of work for something that becomes non existent if it is indeed unlawful? That review should have happened already, surely?
Literally players sat in limbo because of it, and a lot of these aren’t young millionaires like the PL.
Just like that blinder he scored with his left foot down here at stadium MK, he's competent on either side and with either foot. MM would be a perfect fit as they could interchange, plus MM could drop off and play as a 10 and feed Grigg. MM could definitely bring the best out in Grigg....Gooch is definitely not left footed. Also he plays better on the left cutting in on his right foot.
Doesn't this clause catch just about any payment?Signing on fees are not unless I’ve misread that article?
That was my take on it as well. Basically any payments other than cup bonuses are included. Can see why we've had to step back from a few contracts. Although why we didnt get them done before the cap was voted on is beyond me.Doesn't this clause catch just about any payment?
Other fees and expenses paid directly or indirectly to all registered players.

Without wanting to sound too twattish, but that's some contradiction there. The reason Johnston was so successful was that he could cut inside due to being right footed and playing on the left. It's more to do with the option of an overlapping full back which makes it successful or not.
Johnston was mobile though he didn’t slow the game down.
I don’t want to sound twattish but are you suggesting the side wasn’t more balanced in those days, which was my point?
It absolutely was more balanced and the build up play was fantastic at times. However, there are a lot of people who dismiss a left footed player on the right wing and vice versa.
I think it's more to do with the calibre of player and also the support options. Hume could easily be a potent foil for a right footer on the left wing, as long as he takes a risk once in a while (and as long as the winger is willing to use him! - see McGeady's list of weaknesses).
Totally agree about mcgeady slowing the game down. He started doing it when he stopped being a team player here. When he was at Preston he used to take a touch and whip the ball in, was how hugill got so many goals. By the time he ****ed and farted about here the chances were gone. The point was more about McGeady, doing a triple piroette and using his right foot. Johnston didn’t slow the game down quite the opposite, and you’re right he had Micky there who was a smashing wing back.
To have an impact cutting inside you can’t slow the game down, McGeady does. Having a left footer has an even bigger effect as they can cross early.
Liverpool Mane right, Salah left
City Sterling right, Mahrez/Silva left
PSG Mbappe right/Di Maria left
Top, top sides generally have one of each.
