He went to Italy, and single handedly lifted Napoli out of mediocrity, at a time when Italian defenders were absolute world class thugs to a man. Kicking lumps out of players wasn't a euphemism, it's literally what they did, or tried to do.

It was 4-0 at the time, so yep. Bilbao went on to do the double that season though, beating Barca 1-0 in the final.
That's where the knee in the face from above comes from. Maradona kicked off after the match ended and never played for them again.
