We will never get the rest of the squad up to speed if we do that. Give some of the players who should be chomping at the bit for game time a chance to prove themselves. It worked against Man City - no reason it shouldn't here. Its Manchester though - its always a miserable night. A good day there is one where it only rains for 18hrs out the 24.
Lascelles Ritchie and Co will never get upto speed. I'm all for Livramento Hall and maybe even miley but otherwise there'd nothing even remotely good enough. Newcastle will never win anything if they throw the reserves out when there's a big opportunity. Win tonight and Newcastle would be 3rd favourites to actually win a cup. Ps I'd rather play Murphy at cb because Lacselles is an absolutely awful player.
But Livramento, Hall and Miley ARE currently the reserves, as is Targett, as they are not part of our first choice 11. I don't class Richie as a reserve anymore. He shouldn't be anywhere near the squad. Its actually difficult to pick a team for tonight as we are short of strikers but I would probably play: Dubravka Livramiento Schar Burn Hall Guimares Joelinton Willock Miley Gordon Wilson If we want to rest Wilson I would put our other fullback up front as its always good to have a Targett-man at centre forward.
This team would be fine but if they're not resting our best players then what's the point in only resting Trippier... Longstaff who cares. I suspect we'll see a far worse side and I hope I'm wrong. I remember previous managers being abused for not taking cups seriously. Man united have the likes of Varane Reguilon martial and garnacho all likely to start and maybe even casemiro... Newcastle need to field their best possible side to get through imo.
Gordon doesn't need a rest. Willock needs game time. We need a ball player in midfield and Guimares is the only one we have with Tonali on an extended betting binge. If Hall or Targett could play centre-back I would rest Schar. With Botman looking as though he is out for an extended period I want to try some other options at centre-back. Lascelles is an enigma (probably the best thing he has been called on here for some time) - his game is actually suited to playing a backs - to -the - wall type game against the better teams but you see his main weakness (passing) when he has more time on the ball.
It appears you're agreeing that we have to go full strength. Lacelles wants to sit on the edge of the box too much for my liking and I think he gets dragged out position too much aswel. I don't rate him but what other option is there? Paul leaning backwards when he's trying to go forwards dummett. Lascelles dummett and targett or Burn all is a recipe for defeat.
I will wait to see teamsheets to confirm my assessment, but at this stage I don't think Newcastle will be getting a win at Old Trafford. I can't see any reason to think Newcastle will win at Old Trafford other than 'faith' which is the excuse people use for believing in things they don't have sufficient evidence for! All the evidence points towards a home win.
No it doesn’t. Manchester United aren’t what they used to be. Like us they have injuries and a lot of games to play in a short space of time. Game will be close but we shall prosper
Apart from the part where they’ve been absolutely shocking at home all season, beaten multiple times, while being very fortunate not to drop points against Forest and Wolves. On top of that, they’ve a man in charge on the brink of the sack and a mutinous fan base. Other than that…
Livramento was awesome against City, but Hall and Miley were ripped apart in midfield and we were hugely lucky to go into half time level. The game totally changed when Bruno and Gordon came on for Hall and Miley, and we dominated and won. Playing Hall and Miley is not a good idea.
Miley hardly had a kick that game, totally passed him by. Hall was no better. Might start the game the same, and bring the big guns on later, although I reckon Gordon will go CF.
The same sort of thing was said this time last year and they made easy work of Newcastle I the final and finished higher in the table. The last 50 years suggests Man United will win this game. Newcastle don't win when it really matters... always the bridesmade. I'm obviously hopeful but not confident.
Man Utd look terrible But we have too many injuries and have been loyal to too many players. Still see some will rather we hold on to Wilson instead of finding a replacement asap. Bizarre, but we are a small club so
I'm in the same boat - hopeful more than confident (historical scars), but I'm not wing and a prayer hopeful. They're gash. Their manager is a **** ****, and now everyone knows it. Fans are having a ****ing meltdown. Rashford and a few others have downed tools for Tenner Bag Vs We're not gash We're not having a meltdown Everyone pulls in the same direction for the gaffer and the club We're carrying a lot of injuries, and will have to start the stiffs Bench won't be as strong as it could be But we will be well up for it and I do still think we have enough quality to beat them. Livramento, Hall and Miley should have had more minutes by now and we'd be better prepared... Interesting dilemma on team selection. Nervous. Hopeful. Marginally confident.
Wilson scores goals and can put himself about. He's lost his pace but can still stick it in the net. Replacing a striker of such quality would cost vast amounts so they might aswel hold on until they can land a big one. He's got this season and then next I'd say as a squad player.
Injuries are definitely killing the chances of getting back into the champions league and will probably end this seasons campaign in the league cup and the group stage of the championship league. Hopefully there's some money available in January but tbh it's all about 3 years down the line .. this is just the start.
I think we can get out of the group stages of the CL, but we'll definitely go out early in the knock out stages. However regardless of what happens now, that PSG thrashing is always going to be something to remember. Injuries are an issue to us but the rest of the team is playing well, that gives us a big chance against Man U who look ****e right now. Although sadly these always seem to up their game against us.
They'll have to beat Dortmund or PSG away to stand any chance and I don't think they will having watched them struggle at Wolves. If Newcastle were full strength maybe but this current side has far too much tripe in all areas. It's all good this season is nothing more than a taste of the future.
