Not too concerned about the result TBH, I just want to see the same spirit in the second half, even if we go level/fall behind. Fantastic so far.

That was a great goal by Rashford! Not an easy one to score with being chased down and keeper coming out.

    Yeah, a genuine stepping stone.

As much effort as McTominay put in (and he's got to be commended for it) he was untidy.

Casimero improves that, so instant step up right there.

Malachia was an improvement on Shaw, Varane better than Maguire. Still think there's a decent back three there when need though, so a good flexible option.

When you looked at the benches, we had loads more options than them.

Rashford was very direct and showed confidence, which has been missing last two years.

    Pretty good.

Thought Malacia, Martinez and Dalot were very good. Fast and hard in the tackle and got the ball forward quickly, Varane was the calm class when needed.

Im so glad that this performance has come without players like Ronaldo (who wants to **** off) Maguire captain but whose performances on the pitch hardly warrants it. Ten Hag’s hand is now massively strengthened. You don’t perform or agree with his system, you are out. Massive step for this team. His bravery has been richly rewarded.

It has to be this way going forward. Players must earn their place in the team. No more egos! We need to move forward with those that will fight for the shirt and consistently put in their best when called upon.

    My thoughts..

Malacia, Dalot and Martinez were outstanding.

Bruno took to the captaincy brilliantly. But he MUST put in that performance and leadership next week and every week after.

I'm glad in a way we conceded because that was the real test of character and they didn't buckle <applause>

Elanga shredded Trent in that first half.

And delighted for Rashford scoring. His demeanour completely changed after the goal and I have a soft spot the guy so genuinely pleased for him. Hope it gives him the confidence to find his form.

It’s funny how the whole atmosphere has changed. Was dreading this match as a defeat would have consolidated the gloom and would have made recovery very difficult. This match was more than 3 points. It was about stopping the slide, building a new team. Ten Hag can now do that without too many ABU pundits jumping on his back.

That was a fair pre-match dread tbf. Up until today we hadn't really seen Ten Hag's influence. Today we saw a glimpse of it and I have to say I haven't seen us play with that level of intensity for years.

ONLY one game though. We HAVE to follow it up with the same aggression, spirit and quality against Southampton.

Casemero will hopefully be another piece in that jigsaw.

Edit: the ABU pundits will still be waiting in the shadows.

One thing is obvious. We simply cannot build play from the back. The GK is crap at it and the defenders are nervous with it. We were undone and gave silly goals away against Brighton and Brentford by errors in dangerous areas of the field. Against the RS that weakness wasn’t there and suddenly one of their main strengths - their high pressing was nullified as it never happened.

with the players we’ve got especially the GK we need to kick the ball up the field, even against mid ranking opposition. I hope we don’t revert back against Southampton otherwise I can see another Brentford.

You are right about this, the modern "trend" is high press, high press. When a team goes long and bypasses it some teams are ****ed because everyone is up the pitch.

    Yeh very much so.

Only problem is De Gea's distribution is ****. Whether he kicks it out to the left or right it often goes out of play. He's better off just punting it up field and hoping we win the second ball.

Ultimately we need a gk who's better at it.
