Howard Wilkinson, last English manager to win the Premier League, only to go on and set a record low points record in the Premiership with some of the worst football I've ever seen.

Peter Reid and Ricky Sbragia, in their own ways.

???

He's had one club management job with Sunderland, promoted from coach he kept us up, just, then stepped down and took a scouting role when Steve Bruce became available. Not sure how that's hero to zero, he was never interested in club management, but stepped up when needed by the club he'd devoted most of his coaching career too.

Even since he left Sunderland he's managed and nurtured Scotland's U17s & U19s and done well, they're getting a better standard of kids coming through these days.

Sbragia has had a respectable career and in no way has ever hit rock bottom professionally imo.

I read the OP for what it says: Managers - Hero to Zero. Ricky is a truely good football man and a decent coach, but very much a backroom man. He was a hero because he stood up when needed, he stepped outside of his comfort zone and he did a hero's job of keeping you up - as with all hero's, he went well beyond his normal level of competency, against his gut instincts and he surprised many, me included. My definition of zero (in the context of this thread) is that he has never managed again, he has returned to being a very decent football coach. Hero to zero IMO. It was not meant as an insult as I have a great deal of respect for what he achieved, just as I have for what Peter Reid achieved; but life goes on. <ok>

Fair play. I wasn't insulted marra, just backing up a good man as he got some bad press off an ungrateful minority of our fans so would hate to think they'd managed to put a spin on him out there. I'd just call him a hero myself, but unfortunately some Sunderland fans attacked his integrity every step of the way. They didn't want him in the job but they didn't take on board the type of bloke Ricky is and why he was doing it. :(
