The Story ​


Gregori ran from the two mobsters behind him. The streets were dark and the only light was the illuminating moon. “Come on you damn prick, give up already!!!” screamed one of the mobsters. Suddenly there was a gunshot. Gregori’s heart went cold and there was a sensational stabbing pain in his back. He dropped to the floor, as the burning pain swept him off his knees. He clutched his chest, and saw that he was surrounded in his own blood. The gangsters kicked Gregori in the face. “Damn it, I got his blood on my new pants.” murmured one of the mobsters. “Tough luck chica…Salvatore is making a play… see you in hell”. The mobsters and aimed their guns at Gregori’s head. “At least I ****ed your wife he thought before they clipped him..

It seems the Russians and the Italians were at each other’s throats again on the upper east side, nothing ever seems to change in the big apple town. Salvatore Rosso and Ivan Popov have started an all-out war and the Citizens have been paying for it. Good people have begun to move out, and in their place, detestable individuals of questionable backgrounds have moved in.

To make matters worse for the beleaguered NYPD someone’s been running around sticking axes in people’s heads. Go figure….

"This has to stop." Someone says.

And everyone agrees. The maniacal streets must be returned to their order. Those still sharing a tight community bond decide it's about time to step up, and take action…..

Game Mechanics

· The game will run on 24 hour rounds. Start time is 10am BST Monday. Night will fall at 8pm each night

· Roles will be randomly assigned. Roles will be passed to participant by the forum conversation system. Be ready to get a PM, be sure to check before 10am Monday... and keep checking

· ONLY those on assigned teams can communicate privately, no other private communication between participants is allowed. Mafia can strategize via pm as much as they wish and communicate findings

· Role specific actions are communicated to games master by PM up to 8pm each night, you miss the time you don’t get you action.

· Public forum is used to vote IN BOLD for who the town will lynch. Accusations, discussions and all sorts are permitted. Vote changing and re-changing is perfectly fine. A simple majority vote is required to lynch. 2 votes is enough even in round one.

· Once a participant is lynched they get ONE free eulogy post where they can say I told you so and no more. Do not post any game related comments to influence the play

· Messing about will make you sick, there is ebola going about. If you catch ebola you lose your vote in the following round but luckily the drugs in the US can cure you after 24 hours. Be warned. Decisions of why you got it are the games master’s decision and final.

· Posts that hurt the game will be deleted

· Win conditions are:

o Italian Mafia win when their rivals are wiped out AND their numbers is greater than the town

o Russian Mafia win when their rivals are wiped out AND their numbers is greater than the town

o Serial killer wins if all other players are dead"

o Townspeople win when all mafias are wiped out.




The order of night time

A clear order of events occur at night.



1. The cop will arrest someone.

2. The lynch mob will haul their target out of his house and execute him

3. The mafia prostitute will act.

4. The witness is wandering about. Actions 4,5,6,8,9 are all visible possibilities to be seen.

5. The mafia dons will act. If actions are the same I flip a coin to see which one is done.

6. The Serial Killer will act

7. A lone vigilante will slip out and take things into his own hands

8. The investigations will occur.

9. The morning newspaper will be published outlining what’s gone on.



Notes:

1. Lynching takes priority over all other actions if you are dead you are dead after all and the whole community does the lynching.

2. The don role says what actions happen. If he is killed the options can be past to a new member.

3. The vigilante will be revealed as an innocent if investigated.

4. Investigators:

a. Mafia with be reported by role.. i.e mafia = mafia, don = don.

b. Serial killer will be reported as killer.

c. Townsfolk will be called innocent.

d. Witness will be called innocent in reports.

Day 1 results:

An angry lynch mob assembled as dusk yesterday, driven by anger and paranoia they lynched “Less hope than Neville” who clearly was more Phil than Garry given he was just an innocent patsy.

In other news in somewhere in a darkened room tonight two men whisper in hushed voices... a new russian mafiosi is recruited tonight...

Police today found the body of a man decapitated by an axe; the man was known to the police and the case is presumed linked to Russian mafia activity. Sources named the man as danilo and he was a goon in the Russian mafia.

Following a worrying increase in Mafia activity the police chief has announced a new major crimes unit has been commissioned to investigate the wave of organized crime

The Roles


The Mafia Roles:

The Mafia will start with 3 people. This is a true team and anyone can decide anything. However there is a don on each team. The don role is specific as there is a penalty upon his death in money and reorganizing terms.

The Don:

The assigned don will be the one to state the teams action each night, this needs to include a specific I want to do nothing if that is chosen action but in event of no action being given to me for whatever reason another team member can intervene; the only exception is where the cop arrests the don for the night.

When the Don dies another mafia will ascend to the role. This will the mafia goon. There is a penalty of loss of half of bank balance as pay offs to keep the rest of the organization sweet are necessary.

The Italian Don is Salvatore Rosso and the Russian don is Ivan Popov

The prostitute:

The prostitute’s role is to distract and block the roles of others. The assigned prostitute will pick one other person in the game and go to their house and give them a good time. This means they will be too busy to act that night… The prostitute can do this every night but they are not into long term relationships they have to change victim every night

The Italian prostitute is Eva Bocchino and the Russian prostitute is Ivana Gargle.


The goon:

Well the goon is a goon. He doesn’t have any specific role but will take over from the don if the Don dies.

The Italian Goon is Luigi 5 fingers and the Russian Goon is Sergi the strangler.



The mafia have 5 powers:

1. The don has a chance of resisting a vigilante kill. This is because the mafia have guns. A straight coin toss will dictate if the vigilante is successful.

2. The mafia have the power to bribe their way to the top. They can recruit new team members but it is expensive. They can also only recruit once per night

3. The mafia have access to the hitman, the hitman is not mafia and is an unaligned. They can pay for hits on any other player. The fees for these hits go up according to risk. The hitman can kill someone in jail but it will cost a huge amount. The hitman can go after the cop but the price is huge. The nice thing is it’s a half up front half on completion deal here… if the hitman manages to get himself killed its not a total loss.

4. The mafia can intimidate. The Mafia have goons for this is for a reasonable fee they can pay for someone to be made to vote in a particular way. The penalty for that person not doing what they are told is to have an automatic 2 votes on them for lynch the following day. (These are EXTRA votes) the mafia will also rob that person’s apartment and sell the proceeds. 10k to the mafia coffers. They may also have a dump in that person’s bed, but that’s just their choice.. The deadline for giving the instruction is 12 noon each day. The person then has all day to figure out how to react to it.

5. The mafia tech.

The mafia can hire a tech to hack the newspaper, but like all papers they will change their password from their mother’s birthday to some alphanumerical combo that’s impossible to guess.

This means that on day 2 and afterwards you have one chance to change what is said in the paper. You can say anything but you can only say it once.


The mafia stash will start at 50k

1. Recruiting a new Mafiosi will cost 50k

2. Arranging a hit can be expensive. Asking for a hit on the cop will cost 100k. Asking for a hit on someone in jail will cost 50k, asking for a hit on the journalist is hard as you don’t know who it is…. But if you find out then ask the fee is 40k, asking for a hit on the another mafia team member if you know one is 50k, asking for a hit on anyone else is 30k.

3. The cost of intimidating someone is 25k.If they fail to deliver you get 10k back

4. There is hacking the newspaper will cost 20k

5. If the vigilante gets killed in a shootout after targeting the don it will cost 25k to remove all evidence.

Please note that if the don is killed the stash halves. If the next don dies it is halved again. Etc.


The mafia have many illicit businesses that take in cash. They usually pull in 20k in cold hard cash but they also have more means to earn cash so the town will not know exactly what the mafia can or cannot do.
 
The Town Roles:

Not everyone will have a role. Sorry but it’s the way it goes, Its too hard to balance the game if everyone gets a role and they can end up being poor roles. However that means I will be assigning people one of 2 random jobs during the game.


The witness:

I will be selecting one townsperson at random each day who will become a witness. The rationale behind this role is that people can see some funny **** late at night and who knows who will be out and about.

This means this person will witness a strange and startling thing as they go about their business.

The mechanics of the role are as follows:

1. I will use a random number generator to pick one non role player each evening.

2. I will list all possible actions that will be undertaken on that night. This includes good guys and bad guys. I will use another random number generator to pick which action will be witnessed.

3. Here is the rub. If you witness an execution you’ve a chance of getting killed. This means either the vigilante OR the hitman OR the serial killer can take you out. As a witness though you are not going to blunder onto a scene par se so you could be a curtain peeper. Therefore I am going to weight it towards the witness living. You will have a 1/3 chance of dying….. don’t weep terribly as it will take one resource from whomever kills you

4. I will pm the info found out to the witness. That means you have to get creative in how to share this info.

5. If you are recruited by mafia you drop off the list


This means for example:

The witness will be a townsperson (if you believe the person claiming of course that up to you)

The witness could say any activity including detectives or recruiters. They won’t know what they person is. If they see a kill they will know who did it but not their allegiance.

If a witness happened to be recruited as well… well that’s tough on the town isn’t it.


The double voter:

I will be selecting one townsperson at random each day who will become the double vote. This person will be informed by pm at 10am who they are for the day. They will then get two votes, one public as usual and one made to me by PM. I will then post the vote in public. This will create a time lag I suppose but gives the person anonymity.


The journalist:

The journalist is aligned to the town and only wins if the town wins. The journalist can perform night time investigations and will then write an article for the town newspaper which is delivered at 10am the next day.

The mechanics of the role are as follows:

1. Directly after the lynching or otherwise the journalist will go out on the town. They will have the power to follow one person at night. Anything that happens with that person will be witnessed. Unlike the witness role the Journalist is an experience operator who won’t get seen watching someone.

2. If the journalist survives the night they will have the opportunity to write an article for the newspaper and report what they saw.

3. The person who is journalist must submit their finding to me in time for 10am. That means even 9:55am in other words. Do be careful. Late newspapers will be a sign something’s gone on and smart people will start trying to see who was not on to give press report. My advice is to bank something early.

4. For every article the journalist writes he will get £5k

This means for example:

If they follow the right person they can see a lot of things, maybe they follow the witness! If so they will see what the witness sees but as a skilled press hack they will not be seen doing so. If for example they see the vigilante kill someone and then kill the witness then this will be fully reported to the journo. Its up to them what they say.

The journalist can write anything they feel like.

The newspaper:

Rather than a specific person the newspaper is a means of disseminating information, the journalist of course writes for the newspaper and as a pro is paid for his work however any good rag also takes in money.

Anyone can write a classified ad and publish anything they want every day. This could be literally anything. From desperate housewives to willing man with van ads. And of course hidden within could be any sort of message to another person in the game.
Any townsperson can write something to put in a classified, be warned the classifieds could say anything, and be by anyone. If you trust that stuff that’s your choice. Classifieds must be in by nightfall to get in next day’s paper. Sorry but with 18 possible entries It’ll take time to collate.


The vigilante:

Is a nutjob who doesn’t like many people but is an innocent, thus can only win if town wins. The vigilante uses a .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson Model 29 as he fancies himself as a dirty harry type. He’s got to buy himself bullets though. He’s got one at the start. If the mafia try to assassinate or recruit him he will resist.


The mechanics of the role are as follows:

1. The vigilante needs time to get his dirty harry lines right… well do ya… punk. He’ll spend at least a couple hours practicing in the mirror before going out on the town. This puts his action AFTER all other direct actions taken

2. If the vigilante targets the mafia don a shootout will occur. After all mafia are not dopes. A straight coin toss will dictate if the vigilante is successful.

3. The vigilante will escape after killing someone. If however he is not successful (see above) then he has a chance of getting killed himself. IF the vigilante has another bullet he can protect himself, He will lose that bullet to escape, if not a straight coin toss will decide if the vigilante gets killed. Killing the vigilante will cost the mafia as they will need to clean up, no mafia will die.

4. The shop that the vigilante uses to buy bullets is only open during the day and the vigilante has to actually buy one. They don’t just drop in his lap.

5. The vigilante is a nutjob. As a nutjob he will do nutty things but if the vigilante admits he is a vigilante however he loses all his cash and bullets. The cops will search his place and freeze his accounts.


The vigilante is a loner in a dead end job. He’s got £50 in his bank account. He earns £25 a night flipping burgers. Bullets cost £100


The police chief:

The chief is a straight up good guy, an old hand at being beat cop in uniform that is a known innocent on day 1. As he eats a lot of doughnuts he knows F all though.

As a known innocent he has some gravitas but there’s no point just believing he’s right cos he could be chief wiggum.

The chief has 4 powers:

1. The cop has body armor. Any attempt to kill him will reveal the killer to the cop and will result in a straight coin toss whether it succeeds or not. If it is not successful then the cop will know who the killer is.

2. The cop can arrest one player each night if he chooses. That player is then protected but cannot take any actions. This is an unlimited tool as the drunk tank is open all hours however the drunk tank is not necessarily the safest place in the world. The arrest needs to be made before 8pm. He can’t arrest people twice in a row cos that’s police harassment.

3. The cop can go to the feds and get someone placed in witness protection. This is costly though…. And the cops can’t afford to do it much. If the cop chooses to place someone in witness protection they are removed completely from harm, it means the person is taken out of the town so cannot be lynched that night.

Please note that due to the paper work involved the cop must choose between actions 2 and 3. He cannot do both.

4. Major crimes division. The cop can choose if he wishes to set up a major crimes unit (one person joins the cops) This is costly as it will require setting up a tech division but it does add some more powers and a team mate to work with. One person has been selected to be this extra police already. They will be a townsperson day one, after that anything could happen.


The police budget starts at 50k.

Placing someone in witness protection will cost 25k

Setting up a major crimes unit will cost 45k

The cost of locking someone up is 5k (this is the cost of processing the person)

The cops get a slice of the town’s tax take each day. 10k per day is given to the police.


The Mason lodge grandmaster:

The lodge grandmaster is town aligned and the head of a secret society dedicated to higher morals. This means they are looking for the means to get rid of the mafia ASAP. The grand master knows all other masons and can recruit one extra mason. That mason cannot be the cop as a known innocent would be too easy…..

The mason is simply a lodge member but can communicate with all other lodge members

 
The 3rd Party Roles

The Hitman:

The hitman is neither town nor aligned with any other group. (I cannot see how we can reliably communicate the hits between players and have the hitman as a real role which would be to be able to say yes/no at 8pm each night if people change their minds late. If someone can suggest something I’ll listen but the hits have to be given as flexibly to the instigators as possible.)

This means for this game I am the hitman. I will take the money in form everyone and run a tally of how much the hitman makes. If I kill lots I suppose I might end up richest man in the town…. In any event I will also roll the dice. Which means funnily I can kill myself in the game.


If the hitman role dies he dies and the power to kill goes with him. This can occur if serial killer or vigilante or cop is targeted.


The Serial Killer:


This is a non-aligned role and as such is a solo team. You will be always a team of one. Each night you go out and you kill… it’s a compulsion. You will take your axe and go chop up some poor unfortunate.


The choice of who is up to you. As a compulsion you can kill each and every night the game goes on.


Dangerous targets have risk. The don, the vigilante, the police all have protection. If you hit anyone of these the same odds apply. Coin toss on the cop and the don, if the vigilante has a bullet you have another coin toss. IF you are seen by witness you will have a chance to take them out too.
 
This will open at about 10am Monday

US police, acting today at the request of an Italian court, have arrested a New York City man authorities identify as a member of the Gambino mob family for extortion, Italian officials said on Thursday.

A court in the southern Italian city of Potenza ordered the arrest of Francesco Palmeri, 61, and seven others for trying to extort €1m (£800,000) from an Italian businessman, according to the arrest warrant seen on Reuters.

However Italian mafia groups such as the Sicilian Cosa Nostra seem unperturbed by ongoing arrests and their activities only seem to increasing here.

Not on this thread, no. But I've always maintained I would vote IBWT - everytime I've voted for him in the past, it's been correct. <ok>

Doesn't mean it'll still be there come the evening, but there's never much to go on on the first day anyway.

Names were in order of sign up per the list in OP.

I move the frst person voted for to top of list and add first person to vote of them.

So the table will have the order of people who were voted on and the order of who voted for them in it.

also all no vote people will be on the list.

I am getting issue of message too long though so bear with me
