Why are Barcelona spending so much on a striker where they already have Messi & Neymar that can play up front?

Probably their strongest position. They must have a really big budget or they are choosing to ignore their problem areas for a marquee signing.

They're going to play him as a central defender.

Welcome back Dave...Good to see you posting again.

Word now at mo from that Balague fella is Barca think negotiations going well and advanced but Sanchez has offers from Arsenal and Juve to consider except while Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Sanchez their bid to Barca is lower than ours....take it for what's it's worth from who it's from..........

Edit: latest tweet.

When a side says its advanced it means agreement in place. LFC might want 2 keep it quiet 2 close other deals but seems pretty close

Does that imply that we've made a separate bid to the the Suarez negotiations, or that we would reduce the release clause by such an amount if they include Sanchez as well?

Seems contradictory to say that agreement is in place, but Sanchez hasn't decided where he's going.

That's what I thought too. I assumed it meant reduction by "x" but then that's reliant on Sanchez saying yes.

Suppose if Sanchez is saying he'll go to Arsenal if they meet LFC's bid then Barca can add that to the rest to meet LFC's valuation for Suarez? Is he willing to come to us if Arsenal don't raise their bid?

Suppose they could have Plan C which is just stump up our valuation if Sanchez says no altogether.

It gets interesting if Arsenal don't meet our bid, and Barca can't afford the difference to get Suarez. They can't force Sanchez to sign with us, but they can block him from signing for Arsenal (assuming a release clause or similar isn't met) and chuck him in the reserves (if they really wanted to). Then the questions become how much do Barca want Suarez, how much do Arsenal (or Juve) want Sanchez, how much doe Liverpool want Suarez and Sanchez and how much does Sanchez not want to come to Liverpool. It could be an interesting game of chicken.

I don't know if Liverpool could sue Suarez (I certainly don't care if Uruguay could), howevere what would be the point? Suarez's personal wealth would be nowhere near sufficient to pay the legal fees for tking action against him!

Welcome back Dave <smooch>

Beeb saying talks were productive today with barca. Makes me sad that we will never see Suarez score a goal for us again.

Would be nice to get Barca in the CL and our home game against them is our 2nd game against them and Suarez can come back and we can give him a nice reception.

They still have room for RF or a 9.

I was thinking this.
Mad bastard though he is, I loved watching him play and I'll be sad to see him go, despite all the trouble he brings.

Yep. It will be a relieving but very sad day when he does finally leave.
