I was half expecting Lovell to depart after season finished so bit surprised it has happened now even though we will not be relagated. Can only think Lovell thought he would still be here next season and looked at players but Scally told him he won't be here. I don't think Scally ever totally believed in Lovell but after saving us from relgation in his first season had to keep him on.. Unfortunately we have not got any better. Thanks Steve for keeping us in league 1 with a small budget and all the best in the future. Will Evans be new manager? Hope not as he will split the fans ten fold
Absolutely shameful, disgusting and every other word I can think of about Paul Scally's dismissal of our manager, without the Chairman suing me! He could have at least waited until the last home game was done, he at the very least deserved that but as per usual the Chairman does things in a manner that hacks off the fans. Disrespectful.
' hack' - I can think of a different word. This is typical of Scally's abilities in terms of man management - he clearly hasn't learned from all the other HR cock-ups he's caused over the years.
I might actually pay for an upgrade on my season ticket - to be in the same room when Scally and Evans had a fight
Shameful treatment. Just appears to be spiteful and vindictive with just two games to go. With this kind of treatment, who'd want to come and work for this Gills chairman?
This is so very sad - laziness is rife in our society - being insulting by using abbreviation isn't quite the same as full-bloodied anglo-saxon. You got to be able to fully irritate people -- just ask Donald Trump - he's not afraid to say what he means (( what was he thinking of when he came out with four-letter expletives ? ))
Completely dismayed at the decision to do it 24hours before a match with only two games left of the season. The Welsh Wizard should have at least been given the opportunity to say goodbye today if he was to leave at the end of the season. Sparks of a disagreement yesterday afternoon in the same manner of how Taylor was sacked second time around to me and this one really does not sit well. As for Steve Evans that absolute cretin shouldn't be anywhere near this football club.
Paul Raynor new favorite for job. Who? Well he is right hand man to Evans so could be. He will be a lot cheaper than Evans for sure but never been manager before
I docked back in Southampton on Saturday morning, leaving me with a mad dash to get back in time for the Charlton game. It was only on my way to the ground that I heard the news about Lovell, my immediate thought was the same as many on here, however, his record hasn't been good over the last season. Any new manager needs time to rebuild for next season before all the best players are gone, so is it right that SL went now. At the moment I don't know what happened at the meeting, and who decided SL went now, what was discussed at the meeting and what was the topic that brought it to a head. If anyone has facts, not speculation then please let me know, at the moment I don't know what to think.
So, grumpygit, that's you out of the running for manager - but favourite for next chairman. Despite my reservations regarding Lovell's managerial ability - my 'Ambition' thread was to question Scally's poor treatment of a loyal servant of the Club over MANY years - Lovell deserved to see out the season ---- it's not as if Scally's been quick with previous appointments - and whilst Mr. Scally may have been 'right' to sack Lovell based on results - ---- as I have told my sons --- there is a subtle difference doing what is right, and what is right and 'proper in life.' - shame on you Mr.Scally !
The trouble is did it play out that way, a club statement suggests that it wasn't their decision for SL to leave now? Does that mean he was going to be sacked at the end of the season? so walked before being pushed. Does it mean SL was offered a low budget and told Scally to stuff it? Does it mean there was discussion on SL's insistence on playing a losing formation and he refused to change it? without being at the meeting we can only guess at what might have happened.
