The World At One today played audio of people screaming for help. I turned off at that point. The phrase "if it bleeds, it leads" was meant as an admonishment, not instruction. Twice, in the last then years or thereabouts, I've walked past road accidents on Oxford Street only to be horrified by the number of passers-by trying to film the incident on their phones. One time it involved a woman who had fallen under a bus and a policeman attending the scene did everything bar knock out one bastard who was literally pushing forward to get a better view. (I don't think many would have argued had he done so.) My point being, there's an eager audience for this kind of thing.
