Kind of understood Bruce's logic not to dismiss the players that got Hull promotion, trying not to emulate a QPR style chuck some new players in, but this MF of theirs looks woefully short in this company. Livermore and Hudd may get some minutes 2nd half, Bruce in making his original decision has no experience in there.

Very disappointing to see Adam Smith not getting any playing time at Derby. I know it's still early days and I am not sure what the situation is there, but we need to have this player playing regularly.

How much thought actually goes into these loans, as in making sure our players are going to clubs and managers that want to give them a chance and actually give them game time, as I see a recurring theme here about players sitting on the bench for lower league clubs.

There will always be a hit and miss element in loan moves, and we have certainly had our fair share of misses over the years. But one of Tim Sherwood's main roles is to get loanees into good clubs where we know they will be treated right and will get sufficient playing time at that level to enhance their development. Much as I applaud the under 21 league, there can be no doubt more experiences will be gained in playing in the FL.

As I have mentioned before on Smith, Redknapp and his coaching team were unanimous in their belief he has the makings of a good PL player. Villas-Boas and his coaching team are of the same view, so clearly they want this lad playing.

In principle, the choice of Derby seems fine. Nigel Clough has a good reputation for playing football the right way and has a reputation for liking to give young players an opportunity. Having said that, Tom Carroll did 't get picked too often when he was there, so maybe Sherwood would have been wiser looking elsewhere.

Smith, Townsend & Carroll are all of similar age yet at times seem lost in no mans land, in terms of their career.

They aren't getting the right amount of football to progress and develop, and if Smith is truly thought to be good enough for our first team, sending him on loan to a championship club like Derby at the age of 22 doesn't seem right, so no offence to Sherwood but in this instance I think the move is all wrong and I doubt it will benefit the player.

These sort of season loan deals should happen between the ages of 18-21 and then they are either integrated to the first team or moved on, as I can't see how Smith can get to the age of possibly 23 with only 2 first team appearances and be considered to have a future with us.

Carroll at least is involved with the first team and if he carries on being picked for the bench, his chance will come so there is more hope.

But I'm surprised QPR never took smith on loan, seeing as Redknapp rates the lad, that would have been more exciting and worthwhile (even at championship level), plus if QPR where to get promoted with Smith as full back, it gives him and us more options.

Didn't Redknapp say something about wanting to take him on loan, too?

Harry did indeed ask about taking Smih on loan, but this was Sherwood's call and as he and Harry no longer get on, then the deal never really got going. Once this window closes and Baldini will then take on overseeing the movements of the fringe players, expect this scenario to not happen again.

The ref's called the players into their dressing rooms at The Valley after 25 minutes with Khumalo's Darlington side battering the hosts Charlton into an early 3-0 deficit.
Rain has stopped play and I have a feeling that the home side won't be doing too much to get this one going again! <laugh>

Livermore had a blinding game for us today lads. He must've ran a marathon, his engine is great.

Thudd was also brilliant, dominated the midfield for us, and also won MOTM.

<ok>, Good to hear. Tommy is not the most confident of lads, so a MOM award on his home debut will do wonders for his confidence.

I think he misplaced 2 passes the whole game, and he made way more passes than any other player on the pitch, for either side.

If you go on our board, we have a MOM thread for every match, I think nearly everyone has picked Thudd, and a lot have picked Livermore. It is a hard one to choose, as most of the team was fantastic (Curtis Davies was absolutely unbelievable at the back).

Smith stayed on the bench for the whole game
Pritchard played 90 minutes, getting an assist
    Luongo played 90 minutes

Goal and an assist. Luongo and Hall got 90 minutes, Mason came on at the end of the first half.

More importantly, though, Adam Smith got 90 minutes for Derby against Brentford this evening, and chipped in with an assist.

Is there a recall option for Smith Spurcat?

It's clearly not working out for him at Derby and these cup appearances won't do him much good, he could pretty much get that here. I'd rather the club pull the plug on it now rather than risk having him on the bench any longer.

I'm still surprised we loaned him to a Championship side again but seeing as we have done, it needs to be at a club ready to offer first team football.

Obviously Livermore didn't play tonight, keeping him fit for Man City as we should be.

Cardiff have shown that city are very beatable. Their heads drop when they conceded and they fall to pieces.
    Good luck <ok>
