Now that normality has returned - or as close as it gets here...

The Boxing Day Matchday Thread

Newcastle head over to Enfield for a traditional 3pm kick-off.

Team News

Newcastle
Ki Sungyueng is unavailable after linking up with the South Korea squad for next month's Asian Cup. No news on whether Clark, Darlow or Shelvey are now available after injury.

Liverpool
Alexander-Arnold and Keita are expected to be available but Oxlade-Chamberlain remains out, along with Gomez and Matip.

Form
The Reds go into Christmas 4 points clear at the top of the Premier League and have won 7 of their 8 home league games this season, only Manchester City avoiding defeat in a game that ended scoreless.

Our last win at Anfield was in the League Cup in 95/96 season. Last league win was 93/94, so not looking too great....

A message to Newcastle supporters from Jonathan Tudor, son of former SJP favourite, John Tudor:My dad is struggling with Alzheimer's and it has been linked to his many years of heading the ball.

We are working with the Astle foundation as many former players are going through this, but it is a very challenging road.

Many of my dad's greatest memories were at St. James' Park and he still has a great fondness for the Geordies.

Please could you help give him a massive memory with a rendition of his NUFC song "Hallelujah, John Tudor!" in the 10th minute at Anfield on Boxing Day.

I know it's a lot to ask in these days of turmoil and takeovers, but please remember those ex-players that still have to work today and who rated passion higher than their pay packet.

One of Supermac’s strike partners. Always tried 100%. Love it that the son isn’t asking for money but asking for a “memory”. I hope it happens.

I don’t think they have played a team with an away record like ours yet.

Think we will bring them back down to earth with a stunning 0-0 draw. The only criticism will be we didn’t do enough with our 3% of possession.

It is a football match, played on a field and we are going to lose it.

Rafa should get a good reception at Anfield, and hopefully they'll be a good John Tudor chant on 10 mins, which will be nice to see. Watching our team getting mangled for the rest of the match will be less nice to see.

Think we are going to miss Ki in midfield this next month. I didn't really rate him but he seems to get through a heap of work there and looks very tidy on the ball. Think that has been an important part of our form away from home. Not sure how we will replace him. Would be great to get Shelvey back for home games but he certainly doesn't have the defensive awareness required for the away games.

We seem to have done relatively better against the better teams this season so i don't think they will stuff us but I can't see us creating any scoring chances so best I am hoping for is 0-0.

Agree. With no ki to lock Down the midfield we will be cruelly exposed.

Unless we a " Miracle at Anfield" can't see anything other than a heavy defeat. Their defence now sound and goals from all over the pitch. Midfield looking like Ritchie,Diame, Hayden,Kenedy. which will be totally overrun. Still miracles do sometime happen.
