Fair enough, he hasn't had a run this season, and he may improve if he gets that run, but I just don't think he is good enough. You can say my opinion is absolute garbage, but I watched the games last year, and this is my opinion. And, I am not the only one to think it. Yes, he did score goals, and important ones at that, but I think when he played, we had less control over games. I think he is essentially a square peg in a round hole. He is naturally a striker, but is being played in behind the striker, and so I think if he doesn't score goals, we lose a lot in other areas. He may well step up with a run of games, who knows, but based on my opinion of him last year, I don't think he will. I haven't judged him on his premiership games, because he hasn't had enough minutes, but he has done what I expected him to do (not a lot).

I too remember the 'playing down' of Agustien's importance last season!!

"but I think when he played, we had less control over games."

Is that when playing away?? Cos we ripped apart Leeds, Norwich & Forest twice, whilst he was on the pitch at home!!....

"I think he is essentially a square peg in a round hole."

Your are indeed correct, because he can see a pass or move that others could only dream of seeing......

I said we had less control over games, not that we didn't win them. I think if we were playing better teams, we would have needed to play a more conservative style to get anything from the games. He can create opportunities like no-one else in the team, but if he can't retain possession, the positives don't outweigh the negatives.

They were our most convincing performances at home & he was part of them!!

    Better teams??!!

One got promoted automatically. One was in the play-offs & the other one just missed out on them......

By better teams, I meant premiership standard. They were convincing performances, but like I said, if we were playing better opposition, I don't think we would play the same system.

True. Sorry Leeeon but the fact that others hold the same opinion as you means nothing. No disrespect.

"He can create opportunities like no-one else in the team, but if he can't retain possession, the positives don't outweigh the negatives"

....and you are basing the fact that he 'can't retain possession' on what exactly? The Man City game? <laugh>

I'm all for coming out and saying that a player is struggling to make the step up but I'd like to think I'd base that on performances this season.

To be fair, my argument wasn't that other people say this, so it must be true, I was just saying that other people agree with me, so to say my argument is garbage is dismissing an opinion that more than a few people hold.
I am basing my opinion based on last years games, because that's all we have to go on. And, I think it's fair to say that if I didn't think he could retain possession well enough in the Chamiponship, he won't be able to in the Premiership. I wouldn't judge him on just one game, but he has been predictably poor in the little time he has had.
I agree with that SWAF, and I hope he can show it on the pitch soon.

Hit The Road-" Oh, and Norway, at the risk of sounding like Daiswan I was dead right about playing Dobbie in behind a lone striker and also about Agustien who I felt should not have been sent out on loan and could really do the business for us when you and others said that he was 'nothing special'"

I have always liked dobbie too , its just that he isnt in the team for a reason right now, if he was the dogs bollocks he would be playing every week!! it really is that simple!

RE Kemy- i stand by what i said "nothing special" tell me how many times we have won with kemy in the side ?? i have been impressed with his start this year (because he was very average on limited performances last season)but he does slow our play down a little bit , and its starting to turn out that the physical presence we were craving isnt actually required because we are getting better protection from officals than we ve had for years!! playing a small midfield is actually working for us not against us!

Kemy, like dobbie will have an integral part to play but im sorry to say that neither of them is the star player that you seem to think they are . The managers that put them on loan did the right thing at the time, they both came back better players.

Dobbie like i said origionally will get his chance, all im saying is that the manager knows better than Hit The Road !! so if routledge is in the team ahead of dobbie its because the manager thinks thats best for SCFC. Same for kemy on loan last season.

Ive always rated dobbie , and most people knew (not just aussie) that playing in the hole was his best position as soon as we saw him playing one of his first games for us against Neath. But managers look at other aspects of a players game. Dobbie lacks pace and pace rules in the Prem league . When the team gets more settled into the prem then dobbie will get some games , i just feel Brenden wants to keep it tight and inject plenty of pace into the side right now, dobbie doesnt fit the job discription at the moment but maybe he will in a few weeks time :)

Is it any coinsidence that Joe allen plays his best game when mark gower plays along side him ?? Premiership= pace and speed of pass.

Agreed Norway. I was a big advocate of playing Augustien this year and I have been very impressed with what he has brought to the team. However, he is clearly not as "cultured" in possession of the ball as our other midfielders, and this was very apparent watching what Gower brought to the team on Saturday in terms of his speed and variation of pass. He also makes works the triangle very well with Rangel and Dyer, which is something that Prattley did very well, but Kemy and Allen don't seem to do half as much. Against the bigger teams, I would still start with Kemy, but in more winnable games, I think Gower has done enough to earn a starting position.

I think Dobbie aint going to be playing for a while. He is creative and played well behind the striker last season i believe this is the reason he isnt playing (sounds stupid i know). In the championship he was trying things that in the premiership are going to have less chance of coming off, and we have seen it a couple of times when he has come on this season, which will lead to us losing possession and he isnt quick enough tracking back imo which leaves us vulnerable to the counter as teams are a lot quicker in the big league. He will get his chance, as he brings something different but the central midfielders we are playing at the minute are working extremely well and we dont necessarily need that something different yet.

Dobbie will get his chances yet, I think he knows he's an impact sub and won't get many full games if ever with us, we have depth in the midfield and up front so it's going to be a difficult for us to drop players whilst they are playing so well.
