Both teams have a big core if players in Europe. They're obviously not powerhouses, but they're decent teams. I'd compare them to teams like Ireland, Bulgaria ect. All decent teams, but teams we should definitely beat at home and possibly away. They're tough places to travel to because of the tropical climate and they both play on artificial turf creating a large disadvantage for teams that have much milder climates and aren't used to the turf.
The problem we have now, which is kind of nice, the only team in CONCACAF that will actually come out and attempt to attack us is Mexico, every team just sits back and packs the midfield and hope to get a goal on the counter.
He's a good manager, definitely good enough for the PL. He's great at getting players to play together, would have been great at somewhere like QPR last season. People where throwing Steve Clarke's name around pretty seriously, guess that's why I thought you were serious about Bruce Arena!

LOL in all honesty mate I can't comment on Arena, but I was reading this article which suggested Klinsmann owes much of his success with USA to Arena, is that a fair view or just someone trying to pass praise elsewhere?
If Di canio and Holloway can manage here then sure, why not Bruce Arena? Newcastle? Sports direct Arena, Ashley would love that!

We're so far behind countries in Europe and South America in terms of development and nurturing talent. Bruce Arena took a country no one expected win a game in group argues to the quarterfinal to controversially getting knocked out of the quarter finals. (German defender cleared a ball off the line with his hand, would have been a red card and pk). He benefited from having some talent in the team, but the way he got the group of players to work hard as a team really put "soccer" on the map in the USA. Ever since then it's grown pretty quickly regardless of whose in charge. Klinnsman probably wouldn't have had the players or support he had now if it weren't for Bruce Arena, but Klinnsman is trying not only revamp our entire youth system and ways of developing players, but change the style of football we play. Similar to what he did in Germany when he took over after 2004 Euros. Promote youth and attacking football.
Klinnsman owes some of his success to both Arena and Bob Bradley, but the success Klinnsman is attempting to bring will be a whole lot more noticeable in 10 years when there's players who've got a chance to develop in an academy team make through to teams in Europe and we have a much stronger overall team than we do now. Do exactly remember why Bruce left, I know it was after losing 3 games in the 2006 World Cup, but I'm not sure if he was fired or he stepped down. Bob Bradley I believe was removed partially because Klinnsman had expressed interest in the job and because we had been playing poorly, although getting results.
All in all, Klinnsman owes as much to Bradley and Arena as any manager would taking over a club that had strong foundations laid by a previous manager. Just like David Moyes will have SAF to think every time a youth product comes through into the first team.
I've rarely see a team counterattack with as much pace as Arena's did. They all seemed to have mastered the skill of weighing passes so players could run into them. He got his team to seriously overperform in the World Cup while playing stylishly. Not that England managers ever have any trouble doing that.
That German handball clearance was a greater travesty than the Lampard non-goal, because it was in clear view of the ref. On the handball, the defender moves his hand noticeably to block the ball from going over the goal line (which he's standing on.) You just can't get a clearer handball. It's kind of funny, because he's trying to move his feet so that he won't have to move his hand. But he can't get it quite right, and has to move his hand to block the ball.
Not that I'm still bitter about it...

Bruce's teams are extremely well coached. When he take over the Galaxy in 2008, they had just set a record for most goals allowed in a single season, while also setting the record for goals scored in a season. He came in all of a sudden the Galaxy were much better defensively. In 2-3 years the had one of the best defenses in MLS history.
I think part of what got the '02 USA team to over perform was the players, Bruce deserves a lot of credit but even Bob Bradley's teams were able to "over perform." I think the American players just have the ability to go out their and play with everything they've got and they play for each other. We've seen it under Klinnsman as well, when we went to Italy and won 1-0.
Yes he is doing a great job. At present he is doing a better job than AVB. Surely AVB is the one with much more to prove considering he has spent so much money on players this season...
Nail on the head. At 0-1 and 1-2 against Liverpool they'd have crumbled under Moyes. He's built on what Moyes created and got them playing good football in the process. Easily the best team outside the top four on current form.

Martinez has definitely proved me wrong so far but why even think of a manager who has just moved to Everton, he is so far doing a good job but if we sack Avb we can't just bring in any manager who has looked good for 13 games.
Unless we can find someone like Hiddink or the next Klopp, we may aswell just stick with Avb and give him and the players the season, we have seen us go a whole season with players like dozzell, nethercott and rocket ronny and had managers like gross and Graham.
6 more months of Avb isn't going to do permanent damage!

A hasty sacking will tend to diminish the quality of the replacement both by making the job less attractive and requiring a midseason change for the new man (unless he's currently without any means of support)...
But the problem I have win or lose is there is no entertainment.

I'll be happy if Avb went tomorrow if we had a replacement who has the background of playing exciting football and picking up points.
Most of the names being branded about don't really fill me with much confidence and as Avb does pick up points ( regardless of his painfully dour style) there isn't a need to panic, yet.
If it reaches the Ramos stage of going on a terrible run aswell as playing dull football then sure, panic, but we're not at that stage.

Under Harry Tottenham were a champions league side. Under AVB they are not. Under Moyes Everton were gritty and hard to beat. Under Martinez they play free flowing football with that grit mixed in. I have a feeling Everton will finish above Spurs this season so I don't really see what Martinez has to prove (that he is better than Moyes?) He has already proven that money is not always the key to success but great coaching and tactics will go a long way. What has AVB proven so far this season? (He is not as good as Harry?) you say you wouldn't want a manager like Martinez. I don't really see what Tottenham would have to lose by his appointment. He might have saved your club some money!? Maybe even won you a few more points this season. With the sale of Bale there seems to be a sombre mood amongst spurs fans this season like they don't really deserve better than what they have. Don't resign yourselves to being a mid table team. Remember a few seasons ago your were mixing it with the most successful teams in Europe.
YV is right that Martinez has alot to prove, prove he can sustain current form and reach targets of a club aiming for top four, none of that is proved in 13 games.
If Martinez has Everton up there challenging in May then you can say he's on his way to becoming a top manager, yet it takes sustained success to truly prove yourself.
