And in response to your response his only real season of repute in the championship was last season, yes he scored a few in the lower leagues, but can't be an accurate measure.

i realise you are one of the few ipswich posters who can string more than two sentences together without sounding like you're mentally unstable, so i didn't mean any harm by what i say, and you'd be right if we'd just signed a left back for £3m, but we just signed the 3rd most prolific striker in the division, and that is the going rate for someone like that, even in the championship. in all honesty, looking at similar players, he might end up looking cheap. and as i say, if mcgoldrick was subject to a bid next week, i bet you'd be furious if he left for anything less than that figure, even though 'he too' has 'only had one good season at this level'. scoring goals at any level will grab attention, but its not just his goal ratio that will have attracted us to this player. he can play out wide, he can play up front on his own, he's a great age in terms of reaching potential and will add pace to a slow attack - combine his attributes with the reasonable fee compared to rhodes/mccormack and this deal makes sense

My comments were based on that a fee being paid is fast becoming the anomaly in the championship.. particularly of that figure, with yourselves, Cardiff & Fulham probably the ones ones who would consider it.. and the strikers that are being mentioned in comparison to Grabban were all previously signed for nominal fees (Rhodes excluded) McCormack, Vokes and your very own Chrissy Martin so my rationale is that money isn't always needed (and we know this as well as anybody see Priskin & Chopra.. also on the other end of the spectrum your last promotion season)

Just to clarify my final point as it has probably been overlooked, he is a good player and if he scores the goals to get you up then it will be £2-3 very well spent

Isn't that exactly what Wolves, Bolton, Reading, Blackburn and many have said previously.. But good luck to you and I am probably one of the few that likes to see all our regions club do well.. though that has been tested to the limit in the past few years

there's a big difference between ourselves and the teams you mention above though - we're a financially stable club at the moment. absolutely no debt and every player has had to take a wage cut to put everyone in line with the championship monies. we're not scratching around looking to make up for huge, killer losses or shift players to make up revenue. indeed we don't even need to sell if we don't wish to, though i'm sure we'll chose to shift a few. none of the clubs above were in that position. we can afford to pay the fees and wages of the best players in the division this summer. should we fail to go up then our sights will be somewhat lowered in relation to our financial situation. of course not everyone is able to do that but there's not much risk in city bringing in two or three players for £2-3m at the moment - bringing one individual in for three or four times that amount would be suicidal. the biggest issue, the biggest risk we have, is whether the managerial appointment is good enough. the rest of the club is in a decent state, despite relegation. we have plenty of players with resale value should we feel the need to bring in funds too.

If and when players leave, I'm sure there will be a list of players to choose from to replace them. At the moment, we have a strong 25 man squad not counting younger players other than Josh Murphy. We could add Gafaiti, Jacob Murphy, Loza and Carlton Morris to that list as well as some others. Some players will leave and be replaced, but there will be no need for panic buying. So far, so good, IMO.

You see I can't imagine the younger players you have mentioned with maybe the exception of Murphy knowing what's needed in the Championship. I agree with that. I definitely think Loza would benefit from an extended spell at a league 1 club to see if he can prove himself. A player I'd really like to see breaking into our squad (If we're still in the champ next season) is Carlton Morris. I watched a few of the FA youth cup games at Carrow road and he is a real handful. I wouldn't be throwing him in now but if his performances stayed along the same vein last season (Didn't see many youth matched unfortunately) Then I reckon he could handle himself in the Champ. He's already got the physical presence and A pretty neat touch. He reminds me of Lukaku, though obviously not the same calibre.

I agree with supers on the youth, we will see far less of them than people are imagining, intact one of the first things our technical director will probably do is work with ricky martin to send many of them out on season long loans.

Though City should have no need to 'throw' young players into the starting line-up, I'm not convinced that they get much benefit from going on year long loans. Gafaiti spent all last season at Oldham and played once, coming on in added time. Where's the benefit in that?

I'd rather the older players play in the development squad on a regular basis than that. Loza (20) is only 2 months younger than Redmond. He had 3 loan spells last season and played 11 times. The Murphys will be 20 in February and I think will have a role to play next year. Adams has already said that he's prepared to give young players a chance and showed that by including the latter 3 players in the squad. Josh will certainly be in the squad occasionally and for these 3 other older players at least, there could be a chance to show what they can do this season by breaking into the squad occasionally the way Josh did last season.
