Blimey Supers, I'm old enough to remember the bad ol' days in the seventies when racism was rife to say the least. The chants that were hurled at black players in those days were horrendous. The 'N' word in particular and monkey chants. It makes me cringe with shame now but in those days, believe it or not, it was just accepted.

We have to have atmosphere at games and there has for the last 50 years been orchestrated chanting and singing at games. I remember some very clever ones sung by the Barclay, some unique to them, some copied. Most were aimed at opposition fans, the police and the ref. Swearing was uppermost not racism or even parochialism. To be fair, there probably weren't many black or foreign players to have a go at. "Who's the bastard in the black?" was aimed at the ref.
Its true what would now be called racism was more acceptable years ago. We've all laughed at Rastus jokes and my Father in Law who's from Mauritius cracks jokes about Jews Chinese etc as we crack jokes about Pakistanis. But thats humour not hate. When the mob decides to bully and insult then it goes too far and has to be eradicated.
