Just watched the Nice replay. We'll be alright in the Premier League, I've seen enough in the pre season games to be confident of at least being competitive. I'll chime in to the Premier League predictions thread tomorrow with an in depth view of my opinions of how our season will pan out and a prediction on how each player in the squad will do.
I liked how we dominated with the back three in the first half and Tuanzebe and Burgess joining the attack. Then let Burns and Hutch have free roles either side of the number 10. That will make us more solid when we are being dominated and more dangerous when we have the ball. We are going to get absolutely murdered on the break at times but we'll only win enough points by playing the percentages and accepting some calamities along the way.
Just remember then why Leeds fans pop over here and give it back @Southcoastoldgaffer started crying when I was posting a while back, he reminded me we are in different divisions. If you have fans popping over stirring the pot you are going to need to expect it back, when you all think it is funny it is no use moaning when it happens
Morning Ristac, hope you are well. I was a tad disappointed in the replies, either people have him on ignore or just choose to ignore I am enjoying the political debate on your forum, a real eye opener
Good Morning I am very well thank you and I trust you are too, disappointed with the replies to Spanish or the Gaffer person. I tend not to go into the political debate forum too often, it is a bit of an 'anything goes' area, and although there are some good posts and points being made, it's often too racist for me. Good luck with the new season, I think you might need it but then I thought you would drop away last season so who knows.
All in all, I think we've had a good pre-season in the friendlies. Three encouraging wins and performances against strong European competition - Shakhtar Donetsk are in the Champions League, and both Hoffenheim and Nice playing in the Europa League this season. We also managed to keep a clean sheet in each of those games - possibly harking back to how defensively solid we were initially under McKenna, before the mad sustained goal rush of the last two seasons. Despite a strong pre-season and some good signings, I'm currently the odd one out in predicting relegation on the pre-season prediction thread. I should preface all this by saying whatever the season has in store for us, I'm going in with low expectations and just hoping to enjoy the season. We've been outside the top flight for so long now, I think we're all just glad we're finally there and can now test ourselves against the best teams in the country. For me, we've got a glaring lack of depth and Premier League experience in central midfield. As we all agree above, if we can get Skipp in then that would be a great signing. The Szomodics saga is rumbling on and he came off the bench on the weekend to score one and assist another as Blackburn beat Derby 4-2. Will we get him through the door? I hope so, as he's a good player in his prime years. Then it's a case of hoping our defence significantly improves with Greaves and Johnson coming in, with Muric as the new goalkeeper. And can we continue being a free-scoring side in the Premier League despite being hit with some early injuries to Hirst and Broadhead. It'll be interesting to see if Leicester and Everton (reported today) gets hit with a points deduction, as that'll help our case. I just feel there's a lot of established strength in the Premier League - and the levels of financial disparity are ridiculous. McKenna is probably our differentiator, I think he's a better manager than a majority of the managers in charge of the bottom half clubs. Looking forward to it!
Are you quietly confident this season? It seems to be said every season, but the Championship will be as competitive as ever. However, I look at Burnley, Luton, and Sheffield United coming down after mostly chastening relegations - and they don’t appear as threatening as previous relegated sides looked. I wouldn’t be surprised if two of the three finish outside of the play offs. I think Leeds will finish top two, but depends on a fast start (unlike last season). How much rope does Farke have before the unease starts again (unless it has already)?
I was super confident last season, I will be again this, not many if any teams at Championship level can boast the attacking players Farke has at his disposal. It probably has to be this season as the parachute money only lasts for a while. Love your previous post by the way, very sensible approach. If you’re a lower end team in the PL you get to spend around £80m a year, it doesn’t buy you much when divided between 3-4 players. Teams who have had several season at this level already have a PL ready squad. Ipswich have taken a gamble swooping for several top Championship players, it might work but the step up is huge, I think you might regret not getting a bit more experience in. Season one is sometimes kind, season two is the killer. What the PL does earn you though is the parachute money which is equally as unfair and similar advantage in the Championship as the unfair amounts City get to spend. It’s so easy in the PL to be on the end of 2-3 drubbings, then moral drops and confidence is sucked out in huge volumes. Player confidence should not be underestimated, it needs to be kept high As for Farkes rope, I’m giving him zero, he underperformed last season with what he had, was often outcoached and slow to react
Might have been mentioned before, but apparently we're one of three PL Clubs interested in Kalvin Phillips. https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...hree-premier-league-clubs-interested-29722375
Come and give it back in May if Town have been relegated and Leeds are promoted. Unless both of those things happen, there’s nothing to give back.
That's okay then as I am not from West Yorkshire, it marvels me how you do not see yourself as delusional, never mind. We drew with Portsmouth on Saturday and Spanish came over on the wind up so your invite for May makes zero sense, mind you, very few of your posts do.
Of course it makes sense. You won’t be able to draw many if you are going up automatically so a draw against one of the weaker sides in the division is a terrible start for you. What exactly are you going to be able to give out to Ipswich for? Hosting Liverpool next week or McKenna standing next to Pep on the touchline the week after?
I'm not going to get dragged into a war of words with you. I am happy to take people as I find them, I don't tarnish everyone with the same brush, you automatically have a hatred for anyone who supports Leeds, that's fine, it is your choice. I was answering a direct question from one of your more intellectual supporters Nuggets, he might hate everything Leeds United too but at least he can have an adult conversation. The thing is, I think you are certain relegation material, not because I want you to be, it's just an opinion. It's not a personal insult, you've been out a long time and the PL is different. If you stay up well done, it will be deserved, specially when the likes of Everton cheat their way to survival and go relatively unpunished. What would a forum be without debate and opinion, if two people have a differing opinion one might prove to be right and the other wrong
As the ignore button doesn't work for Moderators (why?)I just tend to skip past posts by obvious WUMs!
